#25. Old Hot Tub
Of all the things you could find under your living room, probably one of the last would be a hot tub, so you can imagine the surprise this family had as they were remodeling their home.
If you think about it, probably the easiest way to get rid of this unwanted tub was to just cover it, and that's exactly what the previous owners did. The big question is, why did they want to get rid of it in the first place? Did it use to be in the living room or was that room previously a bathroom? We'll never know.
#24. Monopoly Floor
When the owners of this house decided to get rid of the carpet, they received the surprise of their lives: their floor was a huge Monopoly board!
OK, it's not the most elegant thing to have in one's home, but it is so awesome! Why would the previous owners want to hide it? And why did they put it there in the first place? Probably because playing life-size Monopoly destroyed the family, as this game usually does.
#23. Space Wallpaper
This vintage space-themed wallpaper is something many people would love to have and yet, it was buried under several layers of wallpaper in an old farm house.
What was it doing in a farm house in the first place? It might have been in a kid's room, or maybe the farmers just had a peculiar taste in wallpaper.
#22. Vitamin Vault
OK, this one is not a home, but it still qualifies for this list because of how awesome it is. A shopper took this photo of his local Wallgreens, which used to be a bank.
Instead of getting rid of the vault, they decided to be creative about it and turned it into the "vitamin vault", which looks totally awesome.
#21. Mural Under Wallpaper
Finding something under the wallpaper is more common than you'd think basically because people don't bother to remove whatever is on the wall and rather paint or put layer after layer of wallpaper over it.
Someone found this amazing mural behind his wall, which makes you think the house used to be a restaurant many years ago. The mural is too good to cover up, but would you want to have it in your living room?
#20. Paw Print
Finding a paw print on a brick is a very rare thing to find. When the person who took this photo moved in to his new home, he was very pleasantly surprised to see this work of art on his wall.
Although he thought it might have been left there by the previous owner's dog, this would have been impossible. The print was probably left there at the brick factory while the brick was not yet finished. Imagine how old it could be!
#19. Well In A Table
The picture might look a bit confusing, but the title is just right: there's an old well right in the middle of a table at a pub in England. The owners of the pub just built the table around it instead of getting rid of it, which was a great decision.
The well is pretty deep and some people are actually a little scared of it, especially after having a few drinks. The hole is covered by glass, but it still is a little creepy to look into it.
#18. Basement Cemetery
Speaking of creepy things found in buildings, this one takes the cake. There's a perfectly preserved cemetery in the basement of a very tall building, and those who stumble upon it are rightfully creeped out.
Although it can be very creepy, it is also nice that the builders decided to preserve it rather than tear it apart to respect the memory of those who are buried in it.
#17. Kitchen Well
While the first well we saw on this list was a little scary, this one is 100% awesome. Those who built this house made the right decision when they chose to build their kitchen around this well.
The new owners went a step further and installed some lights under the glass, so the well looks beautiful and mysterious. Also, all the vegetation makes it look even cooler.
#16. Milk Door
When a couple moved in to their new apartment, they discovered this old milk door under the cabinets. Believe it or not, these things used to be a part of basically every house many years ago.
In case you've never heard of this, we'll tell you. Back in the day, the milk man would come every single day to most houses to deliver fresh milk, so having a milk door made his job easier. He would just leave the milk outside, and the home owner only had to open the milk door and get the milk inside.
#15. Old Police Station
Imagine you move in to your new apartment, and you notice that the doors are a little strange, but because you know the building is old, you don't think much of it. Then, after talking to the landlord, you learn that it used to be a very old police station.
This is what happened to the person who took this photo of their apartment. All their doors look like this one, and all the rooms used to be cells. How cool is that?
#14. Friends On The Wall
The basement cemetery was very creepy but also interesting in a way, right? Well, this one is just plain creepy. Someone discovered there was a tunnel right under his apartment building, so he decided to walk through it.
The tunnel turned out to be a mile long and was decorated with these horrifying paintings of what look like zombies or vampires.
#13. Message Under The Tiles
A family found a heartwarming message after they removed their cork floor tiles left there by the previous owners.
Apparently, the Barker family laid the tiles as a family project, with even the two little kids helping out with the task. The new owners are wondering where they are now, but they have no way of contacting them, sadly.
#12. Rock In The Living Room
What could you do if you are building a house and there's a huge, heavy sandstone rock in the middle or where you are planning to build the house? You could try moving it, which could be very difficult, or you can simply get creative.
The woman who bought this house was mesmerized by the huge rock in the middle of the living room and had to buy it. The previous owners really did it right with this one.
#11. Fish Under Wallpaper
Ah yes, the classic case of finding cool stuff under old wallpaper. While you would most like find several layers of wallpaper on the wall, this person found a cute little drawing of some fish.
Whoever drew it was very talented, but the fact that there's just a couple fish on the wall seems so random. Were they planning on making a mural? Were they just playing around with the wall? And how old could these drawings be? We'll never know.
#10. Jerry, Is That You?
You've probably seen these mouse holes in every episode of Tom and Jerry, but the person who took this picture actually found them in real life.
This house was built in 1741, so these mouse holes are potentially very, very old. Just imagine what could be hiding in them...
#9. Old Motel
New York is a very old city, so every once in a while one of these gems turns up.
As this building was being remodeled, this very old motel sign was discovered. Can you imagine if you could get a room for just $1.50 nowadays?
#8. Spoon Handle
When the person who took this picture bought his house, he didn't notice that the handle of his back door was actually a spoon, and by the time he realized, he had been living there for years.
You can't help but wonder how the spoon got there in the first place. Was it a joke? Or did the real handle break and the owners just wanted a cheap, quick fix? Why did they just leave that spoon there and never replaced it? So many questions!
#7. Old Painting
While the owner of this house was renovating the basement, he found this lovely painting that was made right on top of the cement, under all the usual layers of wallpaper.
This charming painting looks ancient even though it is probably just a few decades old, but it really makes you wonder if it was painted over the cement and then covered with wallpaper, hoping someone someday would find it.
#6. Old Mail Slot
It is amazing to see modern buildings that still keep old features from another time instead of tearing everything down. This one is the perfect example of how to keep a building modern while embracing its history.
This building has kept its original mail slot that can send mail down 17 stories to the basement. It is from 1929 and is kept in perfect condition.
#5. Old Light Switches
In case you ever wondered what old light switches used to look like back in the day, here it is. These bad boys used to be anywhere, but now it is nearly impossible to find them anywhere.
Luckily, the woman who took this photo decided to keep the original light switches from her house. If they still work, why get rid of them?
#4. A Message From The Past
When a family moved into their new house, they decided to get rid of the wallpaper and found this 23-year-old amazing message from a dad.
In case you can't read it, it says: "If the Spice Girls are still popular next time this room's decorated, I'll eat my overalls - by Dad". They are not as popular as they used to be, but one could argue this man has a promise to fulfill.
#3. Random Chain
This person was doing some renovations and discovered a huge chain embedded in the wall, which raises a number of unanswerable questions, especially because the chain is not holding anything and is just hanging there.
The house was built in the 1930s, so what could have been the purpose of this chain behind the wall? The current owner has no idea and frankly, we don't either.
#2. Basement Vault
Remember the Wallgreens that used to be a bank? Well, there's people out there whose houses actually used to be banks. On top of looking totally cool, you can bet that they are safe against burglars.
These people moved in to this house, which used to be a bank, and are currently using the vault in the basement for storage. What would you use this room for?
#1. Old Elevator Handle
As you may know, old elevators didn't just work by the push of a button. There were actual elevator operators that hand to use a handle like this one and take people to whichever floor they needed to go.
The person who took this photo managed to save this amazing 100-year-old elevator handle as their building was being renovated. Luckily nobody threw it away because it is a real gem!
