Grocer Travels 14 Hours To Feed His Remote Town

A Local Hero

It makes sense that a town as small as Gustavus would only have one grocery store. The store owner, Toshua Parker, is in charge of selling groceries to the entire town, so when COVID-19 hit the world, the town depended on him to bring in groceries.

Because everything was closed, he had to do a 14-hour roundtrip to Juneau, the closets city, and get $20,000 worth of basic goods to bring back to Gustavus. When he returned, he was hailed as a hero. Thanks to him, the citizens of Gustavus can safely stay home.
