#3. Overpriced Taxi Fares
The first thing most people do as soon as they leave the airport is take a cab to their hotel. Unsurprisingly, many taxi drivers happen to be professional scammers, and here's what many of them do. I'm sure it's happened to you atl east once!
Some drivers will insanely overcharge you as soon as they realize you speak a different language. Either they will take longer routes on purpose, or they'll alter the meter manually behind your back. But watch out, this is not the only scam you can be subject to when taking a cab!
#2. The Closed Hotel
People are usually stressed out when they leave the airport and the only thing that's on their minds is getting to the hotel as quickly as possible. This is why the following scam is more effective than you'd think.
Many taxi drivers will try to convince you that the hotel you booked is closed for refurbishment, but they'll tell you they know of another place which still has room availability. Obviously, this place will be insanely overprice, but exhausted tourists sometimes agree to anything.
#1. The Helpful Local
Out of all the scams, this is the one that's harder to detect, and thus to avoid. Has it ever happened to you while traveling that you meet an extremely kind local who is willing to go to great lengths to guide you through town?
Well, I'm not saying you should always be skeptical, but just look out. Many people try to be friendly to tourists just to win over their trust, and as soon as they do, they'll scam you in some way. For instance, if you don't speak the local language, they might help you use the ATM while secretly memorizing your PIN code.
