Ireland Gives Back To Native Americans For A 200-Year-Old Gift

Giving Back

The Great Irish Famine was a horrible period of starvation in the 1800s where around 1 million people died in Ireland. Even back then when communication was not as easy as it is today, people still found a way to help out. Native American tribes donated $173 at the time to help with the situation, which back then was a lot of money.

Now that the Navajo and Hopi communities need help because of COVID-19, a fundraiser was started to help them out. They were surprised to see that most donations came from Ireland until they discovered why: they were returning the favor. Apparently, word got around about the fundraiser and many Irish people, who knew about their kind actions from 175 years ago, decided to help.
