A Post Office In Ruins
Port W was a former research center and post office inaugurated in 1933 by an American pilot named Byrd, under the orders of then-president Franklin Roosevelt. However, since the base was located in a very remote area of the continent, the British decided to build a whole new post office at Port Lockryo in 1959, leaving the one in Port W in ruins.

It was not until 2011 that the British government sent an expedition in search of the abandoned buildings at Base W, with the aim of reopening the settlement and launching its former postal service. Nowadays, people are still working to restore the buildings as well as the base's former glory.
