2020: What To Expect From The World Of Entertainment

#29. Glastonbury Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

We’re sure each and every one of you still remembers Kylie Minogue‘s performance at the “legends” slot in Glastonbury, right? Her performance was one for the ages. This year won’t be different, as the amazing festival will feature the amazing Diana Ross!

This year, the festival celebrates its 50th Anniversary with many outstanding performers. Music legend Paul McCartney is performing this year as a headliner and so is Taylor Swift. The reigning pop singer is making her Glastonbury debut.

#28. Wicked

Musical lovers, we’re sure you’re all going to love this… Wicked is coming to the big screen in 2020! If you don’t know the story, here’s a small summary: the musical revolves around the Wicked Witch Of The West, the iconic character from The Wizard Of Oz. The movie’s events are told from her perspective, revealing that there are always two sides to a story.

Sources very close to the production team revealed that Ariana Grande is being “seriously considered” for a role. What do you think? Would you like to see her play Elphaba? Or Glinda the Good Witch? No matter what character she plays, we’re sure she will absolutely kill it on the big screen!

#27. Gimme, Gimme, Gimme More ABBA Tunes In 2020

Back in 2018, the four members of ABBA released a joint statement where they revealed that they would release more music by the end of that year. Time went by and we have yet to listen to new tunes.

Apparently, they were going to release two brand new songs. As we said, nothing happened yet. However, there might be some hope left for fans, since Benny and Björn later said that they had recorded more than two songs. Could 2020 be the year we finally get new ABBA songs?

#26. Goodbye Bojack Horseman

Bojack Horseman has forever changed the game for every show on TV (and streaming services) and has been lauded for its genre-hopping approach and unique fresh take on every contemporary issue you could name: mental health, LGBTQ issues, and even abortion and the Me Too Movement.

Sadly for all of us, the show can’t go on forever, and now it’s time to say goodbye to all of our favorite characters. The only thing that stops us from crying is that we’re still going to be able to binge-watch the show as many times as we want to.

#25. A Little Respect

Academy Award-winner Jennifer Hudson‘s talent is undeniable. We think so, you think so, and the producers of the upcoming film Respect think so. I just can’t wait!

The actress and singer will get to fully display her talent on the big screen once again. This time, she will take on the lead role playing no other than The Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklyn. Her performance is undoubtedly going to leave us breathless, and we can’t wait for it to happen!

#24. A Storm(zy) Gets Ready To Hit The Road

In case you didn’t know already, the grime star had an amazing 2019, with a critically-acclaimed sophomore album, a Glastonbury set and a number one single. 2020 will be equally good, or even better, starring with his biggest tour to date.

Stormzy is ready to bring his impressive thought-provoking show to many UK arenas in 2020. Continue reading to find out which two amazing singers are preparing a halftime show that’ll have everybody talking (or perhaps we should say dancing?) for ages!

#23. Super Bowl Half Time Show

One’s got a big big booty and the other one has hips that don’t lie. Of course, you know who we’re talking about: Jennifer López and Shakira! OMG, what a duo!

What could be better than one successful global diva performing at one of the most-watched TV events in the world? Two divas performing together at the same event! The setlist has apparently leaked and we can assure you that if you’re a fan, you are in for a real treat!

#22. The Circle

What’s next for The Circle? The show has yet to become a huge success, but in spite of that, its second series was pretty entertaining, to say the least. And thanks to its fanbase, ratings seem to be kicking off.

If you don’t think so, take Love Island, for example. The show wasn’t a big deal when it first started until it finally made an impact during its third series, and that is precisely what we expect will happen with The Circle‘s third run. Fingers crossed!

#21. Alison Hammond’s Chance To Shine

It’s high time Alison Hammond got her chance to shine on her own! If you don’t believe us, ask any daytime TV fan. She has been the star of This Morning for a long time, and now all her hard work seems to be finally paying off.

It remains unconfirmed, yet The Sun has recently claimed that 2020 would be the year we will see Alison going solo with her own talk show! Apparently, the show will feature celebrity interviews, make-overs (we can’t wait for these!) and several lifestyle tips.

#20. More Pixar Offerings

2019 left us with a single Pixar offering (Toy Story 4), that’s why when we heard that the studio had two brand new stories to tell, we started to celebrate. One of them is called Onward and it’s a magical family adventure about two brothers who embark on a quest to spend one day with their late father.

The second story is called Soul and it’s quite innovative, apparently. Its style is similar to that of films such as Wall-E and Inside Outso what could ever go wrong?

#19. Rihanna

Rihanna has proved to be an incredibly successful businesswoman. She has her music career, which is huge, and also a not so big yet thriving acting career. Oh, we almost forgot to mention her makeup and beauty brand, Fenty.

Though we are happy with her success, we can’t ignore the big elephant in the room… Is this the year Rihanna will finally release new music? We hope it is, because it’s been a very long time since we last heard her voice singing new tunes and, to be honest, we really miss it!

#18. Mulan Is Coming Our Way

2019 was quite a good year for Disneys live-action films. Aladdin was pretty decent, and so was The Lion King. So, when the trailer for Mulan came out in December, we couldn’t help it… We became really excited about the upcoming film!

Mind you, there are some changes in the story. The new version will get rid of Mulan’s non-human sidekicks and the music will focus more on the story’s Chinese origins. Even though it’s going to be told from a different perspective, it still is the story we all know and love, and we can’t wait for it to hit the big screens!

#17. The Brit Awards Get A Revamp

The Brit Awards celebrate their 40th Anniversary and several changes come with the celebration. While some categories will no longer be a part of the celebration, some others are going to be completely re-imagined.

The idea behind all these changes is simple: the show’s organizers want to put more emphasis on music. Artists will receive more creative control when it comes to their performances, too. Aren’t you intrigued? We sure are!

#16. Sarah Paulson As The Main Star

The actress has always had a preferential spot in almost every show Ryan Murphy has created, and this year things won’t be different. Once again, the one and only Sarah Paulson will be starring in Evan Romanksy and Murphy’s latest show!

Paulson will take the lead in the new drama, and many stars will join her. Some of them (such as Finn Wittrock and Jon Jon Briones) have previously worked in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story and American Crime Story. Sharon Stone, Don Cheadle, Cynthia Nixon, and Rosanna Arquette are joining the cast, too.

#15. In The Heights

This seems to be the year of musical releases. In The Heights is a Broadway musical that centers around the life of a group of people living in the neighborhood of Washington Heights and some of the situations they go through. The story is set over the course of three days.

The show was created by Lin-Manuel Miranda, whom you may know from Hamilton (he’s the musical genius behind it!) and from his contributions to Disney’s Moana; and is directed by John M. Chu (whom you know for Crazy Rich Asians).

#14. Everybody’s Going To Talk About Jamie

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie is already a smash hit on London’s West End, but now it’s set to hit cinemas in 2020. It tells the story of a teenager named Jamie New, who wants to become a Richard when he leaves school.

Richard E. Grant and Sarah Lancashire will be the stars of the film, while newcomer Max Harwood will play the role of Jamie. If this isn’t exciting enough for you, there’s more: the musical (starring Layton Williams) will be touring the UK for the very first time!

#13. White House Farm Murders

Fans of true crime, you probably know this already, but still, it bears repeating: ITV‘s new drama will take a look at the White House Farm murders, in which five members of the same family were killed. Five members, can you believe it?

Among the victims, there were two six-year-old-boys. Tragic, isn’t it? The show stars Stephen Graham and Cressida Bonas and is set to offer “fascinating insight” into what really went on.

#12. What Has Sam Smith Prepared For Us Now?

With an Academy Award and four Grammys to their name, Sam Smith is truly an accomplished performer. 2019 was their most successful year. Smith’s music used to be rather gloomy, but now it’s quite the opposite. A new bubbly, positive and more confident personality is what characterizes the artist these days. We think this change could be a result of the artist coming out as non-binary in 2019.

Smith has had many hits, such as Promises or How Do You Sleep? so now that 2020 is here, we can’t help but wonder what they’ve got in store for us this year and what their third album is going to be like.

#11. A Promising Young Woman Will Take Us On A Ride

Okay people, it’s time to come clean here. We have to admit it. Some of us weren’t even aware this film existed until its trailer was released in December 2019. In this film, Carey Mulligan portrays a young woman who lives a mysterious double life.

The film marks the directorial debut of Emerald Fennell, who is best known for being the showrunner of Killing Eve‘s second season. The film’s trailer caught our attention immediately not only for the premise and impressive cast but also for the amazing orchestral version of Britney Spears’ Toxic.

#10. RuPaul’s Drag Race Comes Back To The UK Once Again

Can you believe that when it was first announced that Drag Race would come to the UK, there were some people who didn’t believe that it would work? Of course, Ru and the producers knew what they were doing when they decided to give UK queens a chance and we’re glad they didn’t pay attention to the detractors.

This year, Drag Race is ready to leave us gagging: All Stars 5, a new series of Drag Race US and, of course, a new UK series! The latter is the one that we’re most excited for. We can’t wait to see what the UK drag scene has to offer this time!

#9. Dua Lipa’s “Nostalgia Trip”

It’s no secret that Dua Lipa‘s first album was a complete success. Her debut album earned her a number one single, and even the Best New Artist prize at the Grammys. Even though the singer was quite happy with her accomplishments, she already had her mind set up on a new musical path.

The Don’t Start Now singer gave a spectacular performance at the EMAs and, also, hit it out of the park on the follow-up taster track, Future Nostalgia. There’s no doubt she is in for the best year of her career so far and we are so excited to see what’s next for her!

#8. Same-Sex Partnership On Ice

The show Dancing On Ice has taken a ground-breaking step for its upcoming series, as it will feature a same-sex pair for the first time. Steps singer H. Watkins will team up with long-serving professional Matt Evers.

Do you remember how many complaints Strictly received that time they showed two men dancing in 2019? They were a lot. Luckily, things are finally changing with this huge move forward in terms of LGBTQ representation.

#7. The Masked Singer

This show has already caused a big stir in the US and Australia, so it’s expected to cause the same impact in its UK edition. What can the British expect from this extremely bizarre singing celebrity contest?

After watching the trailer, we can’t help asking ourselves about the celebrities and the costumes they’re going to wear. How are they going to sing with massive costumes? Luckily for us, the show will be premiered soon and we’ll have all our questions answered.

#6. Love Island – South Africa

As you know, Love Island is set to have two series in 2020, one starting during the first months of the year, and the other one set to begin in the summer.

In 200 all-new cast members will head to South Africa to shoot the show, which is aimed to be a winter edition. The show will also have a new host, after Caroline Flack’s departure.

Slide to see our final slides featuring the most exciting news of 2020’s entertainment!

#5. Wonder Woman Will Take Us Back To The 80s

Even if you didn’t care much for the 2017 film, you have to admit that the upcoming movie has a pretty promising trailer. Plus, it is always great to see the amazing Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.

This time, the story takes us back to the 80s. Who doesn’t love the aesthetic? Plus, Gal Gadot‘s suit resembles the one that Lynda Carter used to wear. Oh, we almost forgot to mention that Kristen Wiig will be the new villain. That should be interesting enough, right?

#4. Line Of Duty Will Introduce AC-12’s “Most Enigmatic Adversary” Ever

Line Of Duty is back sooner than what we expected and if that fact alone wasn’t exciting enough, the show’s creator, Jed Mercurio, has already teased that AC-12 would face its most enigmatic foe in the upcoming episodes.

Most details have yet to be revealed. However, some of them have already leaked. Kelly Macdonald, who used to be on BBC One’s The Victim, will be playing a brand new character whose main goal is to give the team a run for their money.

#3. Adele Finally Reclaims Her Throne As Queen Of The Charts

It’s about time Adele comes back to delight us with her amazing voice and her heartbreaking melodies. We don’t want to pressure her though, since we know she’s been through a divorce recently.

The singer is well known for being secretive as hell, so it’s no surprise she has kept us in the dark when it comes to her new album. She did make a joke though, after announcing the split. She said that a “drum and bass album” was her next project. Do you think we should believe her?

#2. No Time To Die

The time has come for Daniel Craig to finally step down from the 007 franchise. 2020 will be the year of his final appearance as James Bond. Oscar-winner Rami Malek and Lashana Lynch are joining him, alongside returning co-stars Naomi Harris and Ben Wishaw.

It’s a bit of a bittersweet feeling, don’t you think? On the one hand, we can’t wait to see him as 007 again, but on the other, we feel sad by knowing that this will be his final appearance.

#1. Disney+ Comes To The UK

2020 is finally when the streaming platform arrives in the UK. Disney+ will make its arrival in April and some of us couldn’t be happier. What could be better than having the entire Disney catalogue at your fingertips?

But if that’s not your cup of tea, don’t dismiss the streaming service just yet! Remember that users will have every Marvel and Star Wars films on-demand, as well as every episode of The Simpsons available. And if this isn’t enough, we have two words that will change your mind: baby Yoda.
