#30. Twin Accident
Some people believe that there is some kind of magical or spiritual connection between twins, and while that has never been proven, some stories really make you think it is definitely possible. The strangest thing that happened to this pair of twins, however, was that they had the same kind of accident on the same day.
One of the twins had moved to Chicago, but this didn't break their intense connection. Both of them were doing work on their respective houses on the same day, and both of them fell from their ladders. Not only that, they broke the same leg...
#29. Great Minds Think Alike
Many parents decide to dress their twins on the same clothes. However, this way each twin is not allowed to express their individuality. When pair of twins asked their parents to let them wear different Halloween costumes, so the father took one twin shopping and the mother took the other, and it all seemed to be going well...
But when they came home and compared costumes, it turns out that they had both chosen the same one! Maybe they weren't ready to accept it, but their twin connection is inevitable. After that, the twins never complained about being dressed the same.
#28. United By A Movie
Anais Bordier, a French girl, was just hanging out with friends while studying in the UK, when one of them happened to mention that she looked just like an actress he had seen on TV recently. After a quick Google search to confirm this, she was completely shocked when she saw that American actress Samantha Futerman looked just like her.
But one thing really caught her eye: they both had the same birthday. Anais had a gut feeling about this, because she herself had been adopted when she was just a baby. She was actually born in South Korea and adopted by a French family, and she never found her biological family, until now...
#27. The Reunion
Anais quickly found Samantha's Facebook page and left the following message, referencing the famous movie, The Parent Trap, which is about twins separated at birth: > So ... I don't want to be too Lindsay Lohan, well ... but ... how to put it ... I was wondering where were you born,"
After talking for hours and agreeing to meet in London, they finally learned that they were, in fact, twins. Their story was so incredible that a documentary called Twinsters was made about them in 2015. But this isn't the only story about twins separated at birth that we will look at on this list, so stick around.
#26. Swapping Places
When it comes to school work, many twins have swapped places for difficult or stressful situations such as school exams, job interviews, and even breaking up with a boyfriend or girlfriend. That is what Oscar winning actor Rami Malek used to do with his twin, Sami.
As it turns out, Rami was better with creative stuff, while Sami was better with numbers. The two decided to switch places several times, but the biggest one they got away with was in college, where Rami did a whole speech for Sami in front of dozens of students because Sami was too nervous.
#25. Trying To Break The Connection
Many twins, hate that, and try their best to be their own person away from their twin, but that isn't always easy. One pair of twins' relationship kept getting worse and worse because they wanted to live separate lives, yet they kept running into each other over and over.
They both applied to the same college for the same career, which annoyed both of them. Once graduated, they weren't speaking anymore, and decided to apply to jobs all over the country to avoid each other. One of them got a job offer on a state far away, and when he arrived to his job, guess who was sitting on the desk next to him? His twin.
#24. Living A Double Life
A group of students were shocked when an underwear ad started showing up at all the popular spots in town, not because there was anything wrong with it, but because the model looked exactly the same as a teacher in their middle school.
The rumor quickly spread an his job was suddenly in danger, because the school board was worried about the school's image. But it was all solved when he simply explained that he had a twin, who lived a completely different life from his.
#23. The Double Switch
A woman living in Bogotá, Colombia, stopped by a butcher shop to get some meat when she was shocked by what she saw: the butcher was a faithful copy of her coworker, Jorge. The butcher, named William, insisted that he was not him, which led the woman to ask him if he had a twin, to which he responded "yes, but his name is not Jorge."
The next day, the woman told Jorge the crazy story, which prompted him to tell her that the story was crazy, because he also had a twin. Now, there were 4 identical men running around, how was that possible? Jorge then decided to take matters into his own hands and investigate...
#22. Connecting The Dots
Jorge went to see the butcher, who was surprised to see how similar they looked. He then showed him a picture of his twin, which shocked Jorge even more, because William's twin looked more like his own twin than like him. Then, the two discovered something even crazier: they all had the same birthday.
There were pictures of each of their mothers pregnant and at the hospital, so that would need an explanation too. Was it all a huge conspiracy of some sort? The four men asked their parents, who swore that they were not adopted, and therefore, their only option was to investigate with the hospital were they were born...
#21. Finding The Truth
The two sets of twins had been born prematurely, so they had to be put into the special care unit. All babies got healthy and when they were ready to go back to their parents, the hospital staff switched two of those babies, separating both sets of twins.
Neither family realized that a mix-up had taken place, and they took their newborns home. As it turns out, Jorge's twin was William's twin, and vice versa. Although it was a horrible thing, the four men became really close, and now they were basically four siblings instead of just two. The hospital never answered for their mistake.
#20. Identical Twins And Identical Lives
Aimee and Ashlee Nelson were extremely close growing up. But as people grow up they grow apart. They both moved to different states, took different career paths, and got married. It was very hard for them to be apart from each other, and their strong twin connection never failed to bring them back together.
One time when getting together, the two broke important news to each other: they were pregnant. The two basically got pregnant at the same time, and months later both found out they were having boys. Unexpectedly, the two gave birth to their babies on the same day, just an hour apart.
#19. Twins School
A school in Lincolnshire, England, might as well be one, because it has broken a world record for having a whopping 20 sets of twins in attendance. The second school in the world to have the most twins has 12 pairs, so the number of this British school is incredibly astounding.
The school had come up with a system to keep track of all of them and avoid any confusion. Twins are required to wear a small name tag on their blazers, as all students wear the same exact uniform, which makes it even harder to tell everyone apart. One grade in particular has a six sets of twins on the same class, which drives the teachers crazy.
#18. Reunited After 35 Years
Two women named Paula Berenstein and Elyse Schein lived most of their lives without knowing they were twins. Each one knew they were adopted, but neither them nor their parents knew they had any siblings. So, Paula and Elyse grew up with separate lives, yet they were eerily similar.
Both women became editors of their high school newspapers and went on to study film in college. After college, they both became writers. When they were 35, they both decided to investigate their biological families and found each other. It was incredible to figure out that they not only had a twin, but that their lives were so similar.
#17. A Big Family
Two married couples, the MacLeods and the Shaws had a lot in common, as they all were trying to adopt a child, which brought them close. The two couples received a message that they had a baby for them on the same day, and they all planned to travel to China together. When they arrived, they realized that their babies looked identical, but the orphanage assured them that the girls were not related.
The two couples returned to their homes in Canada, which were 250 miles apart, but they all had a strange feeling that the girls were related. So after a DNA test, they were in fact twins. Then, the parents made a pact to each raise one girl, but visit each other and let the girls know that they were sisters.
#16. The More The Merrier
Nowadays, it is very common for people to either adopt, or to try certain fertilization methods, such as in-vitro. This method in particular usually results in multiple pregnancies, and there have even been cases of women having eight or nine babies at once.
7 weeks into the pregnancy a couple received the news that they were expecting two different sets of twins, which is extremely rare. So, not quadruplets, but two pairs of identical twins. The odds of that happening are one in 25 million!
#15. Mirror, Mirror
It shouldn't come as a shock that sometimes twins have the same taste in women or men. This is what happened to twins Diane and Darlene, who fell in love with twin brothers Craig and Mark. The thing is that neither knew who the other one was dating until they all decided to go on a double date.
During a trip to Las Vegas together, the men got really lucky playing poker and made a lot of money, which got them excited and they both proposed to their girlfriend on the same day. Nowadays, they live next to each other in Texas. But there's a twist: Diane and Craig actually had identical twins!
#14. Two Jims In A Pod
This story is unlike any other story around, because the coincidences between these twins separated at four weeks old are so similar that it is scary.
Two babies were separated and adopted by two different families, who decided to call each one Jim. Both Jims were raised in Ohio only miles apart, but didn't find each other until they were 39. Until then, they lived almost identical lives, which raised the old debate of nature vs. nurture that has been investigated by scientists for many years and it is still being researched.
#13. What Are The Chances?
Both Jims got married to a women named Linda and later divorced them, only to then get married to a women named Betty. Now, this just seems like a crazy coincidence, but a coincidence nonetheless, but there's more. Their first borns were boys, and they were both named James, their middle names being Allan and Alan.
In their free time, both men did woodworking, but their careers were in law enforcement. Their habits were also the same, for example, they both bit their nails. Their health conditions were also identical, and they both suffered from stress migraines.
#12. Intuition
Two twin girls usually walked to school with their mom and would always run into another set of twins, boys this time, on their way to school. The boys were walked to school by their father, and they would always get to talking until they reached the school.
One day, one of the girls felt something strange about the boys' father and asked her mom what was wrong with him. Her mother didn't think much of it, until the next day, the other girl asked her mom the same question. That same day, the father of the boys ran away and left his family, never to return. They saw it coming before anyone else would...
#11. Different And The Same
For twin sisters Lucy and Maria Aylmer, there was never any doubt they were not only related, but also twins. But when they had their first day of school, they realized their case was very rare. Kids were mean and didn't believe they were sisters, let alone twins, and the girls were builled and called liars.
Physically, there was nothing that the two girls had in common. Lucy looked exactly like her dad, who was of Irish descent, and Maria looked exactly like her mother, who came from Jamaica. To them, it was always normal, but one day, they went viral...
#10. Going Viral
When Maria posted a picture of her and her sister's graduation on social media, she never expected it to go viral. People couldn't believe that the girls were twins, and so the story spread like wildfire.
The girls opened up about how tough it has been for them because people don't believe them. In fact, they were forced to bring their birth certificates to school to prove they were related. Despite their looks and according to their parents, their personalities are basically the same.
#9. Born In Different Years
A Romanian woman named Maricica Tescu was a one in a million case because she was born with two uteruses, a super rare congenital condition, which allowed her to get pregnant with twins, one baby in each uterus. Everything was going great, until one of the boys started having problems inside the womb.
Therefore, the birth was induced, and the baby was born prematurely, while the other one remained inside. This is not possible with a normal pregnancy. The second twin was born 59 days later, and by that time, the premature one was at a healthy weight, so they looked the same.
#8. Gaming The System
A set of twins did an unprecedented thing in Germany. A famous department store called Kaufhaus des Westens was robbed and $6.8 million worth of jewlery was taken. Everything in the crime scene seemed clean, except for one glove that was left behind. The DNA found on that glove belonged to a man... or two?
The evidence pointed to a 27-year-old man who claimed that it hadn't been him, but his identical twin. Because they had the same exact DNA, it was impossible to determine which twin had robbed the store. The police only has 10 years left to come up with new evidence, or they will not prosecute either man, ever.
#7. Foes, Then Friends
In 1933, a couple who had had twins, separated the twins at just six months old. Each grew up having no idea that they had a twin. Jack was raised by his Jewish father in Trinidad, while Oskar lived with his German mother in Germany, right when the Nazis were in power.
Jack became an activist for jewish people, while Oskar became part of the Hitler Youth, so when they finally found each other, it was a recipe for disaster. The two absolutely despised each other, but when they realized they were extremely similar, they became more and more friendly. Oskar then left his Nazi views and became close to his brother.
#6. The Silent Twins
Jennifer and June Gibbons were a pair of twin girls born in Wales, who shocked doctors because they refused to speak, and only spoke to one another in a made up language that only they understood. They had no speech impediments or anything and just chose not to speak. As they became teenagers, they got involved in illegal activities.
This got them arrested but, instead of going to jail, they were sent to a mental hospital. While there, they made a pact that one would only speak if the other twin died. When Jennifer passed away, June told everyone their story in perfect English, and even a book was written about them.
#5. Three Identical Strangers
The strangest and most unbelievable twin story ever is definitely the one commonly known as the Three Identical Strangers, thanks to a documentary that was made about them. It all started when a teenager got pregnant with triplets and decided to give them up for adoption with the Louise Wise adoption agency, a prestigious entity in her community.
The three boys were given to three different families without being told that the children had any siblings. Their families were very different: one was affluent, one was middle class, and the other one blue-collar, and this was no accident...
#4. A Chance Encounter
Robert, enrolled in SUNY Sullivan University in 1980. On his very first week, a classmate approached him thinking he was a guy named Edward. The student then showed him a picture of Eddy and encouraged him to meet him, because they looked identical.
The two talked on the phone and Bobby was shocked to learn that Eddy had also been adopted. After meeting in Long Island, the two kept investigating, and found out they were related. Then, the story of the reunited twins made the newspaper, and another person saw it...
#3. The Third Twin
David was reading the newspaper one day, when he saw two total strangers who looked exactly like him, and the title read "Identical Twins Separated at Birth". He quickly did some research to try and contact them, and they all arranged a meeting in front of the press.
The triplets were all smiles when they met. However, the adoption agency was under a lot of pressure, especially because they had not been told that the babies were triplets, which is not allowed. Then, the twisted truth was revealed...
#2. Searching For Answers
The agency finally revealed that doctor had involved them in a secret twin study, without telling the parents. The idea behind the study was to see whether twins separated at birth remain similar in character or whether their families and overall environments influence their personalities. It was basically a nature vs. nurture experiment.
There is nothing inherently wrong with experiments, as long as people give their consent to participate. The biological parents, the children, and the adoptive parents were all out of the loop. The agency only told them that a doctor would come to see them from time to time to "keep up with the children and how they are doing".
#1. A Bittersweet Ending
This deeply traumatized the triplets and they all had to deal with identity disorders. Still, they found refuge in each other and actually became best friends. They all moved close to each other and even opened a restaurant together. They were finally a family, until things went terribly wrong.
Edward could not overcome his mental health issues due to everything that had happened, and he committed suicide in 1995. The adoption agency and Dr. Neubauer were never prosecuted and in fact, claimed that they never did anything wrong. A documentary was made about the boys, hoping to bring some justice to their case. Bobby and David are still close, and they think about Eddy ever day.
