19. IT WASN’T OBVIOUS
The two workers arrived at the spot that the sound had just come in seconds ago but they didn’t find anything obvious… They were expecting that something exploded or a part of the dam had collapsed but this seemed not to be the case. Moments later one of the workers pointed his finger at the water in terror.
18. A LARGE “DOG”
A large “dog” had fallen in the frozen water of the lake and it was desperately trying to remain at the surface. The poor pup had used all of its energy while trying to swim towards the shore but the current had won. At the time that the workers spotted him, he was just trying to remain at the surface.
17. THEY DIVED IN
Without hesitation and ignoring the freezing temperatures, the two workers dived in the frozen waters in an attempt to bring the poor dog back to safety. That was not an easy job as the water was freezing cold and the currents were quite dangerous at this part of the lake.
16. SUCCESS!
Thankfully, the two workers successfully rescued the drowning pup as they managed to pull him back to the shore. The panicked pup was back to safety and it was exhausted. The workers offered him a blanket and let him recover from his shock in their car.
15. A HIDDEN TRUTH
While everything seemed that the two Estonian workers/heroes had just saved a extraordinarily large dog there was a hidden truth about this strange “dog” that was to be revealed. That happened the moment the two workers brought the rescued pup to the vet.
14. AT THE VET
The workers after they’d finished their shift decided to take the rescued dog to the vet as the poor animal seemed to have a hard time to recover from the shock as well as hypothermia. After a quick examination, the vet reassured them that the dog would be alright but to their surprise told them that… this wasn’t a dog.
13. A WILD WOLF
It appeared that the two workers had just saved a wild grey wolf! The two men couldn’t believe that they had just rescued and put into their car a wild wolf.
“He was calm,” Rando Kartsepp, one of the rescuers, said about the wolf. “He slept on my legs. When I wanted to stretch them, he raised his head for a moment.”
12. HE WAS EXHAUSTED
You may wonder why did this wild animal behave in such way that the two men could easily carry him all the way to the vet. The poor animal was shocked and terrified so it could act like a normal wolf and behaved more like a dog. That’s why the two workers assumed by mistake that it was just a dog.
11. RECOVERING
Luckily, the vets, after multiple session with the heater and a ton of blanked, managed to calm the wolf down and relieve him from his shock. He was starting to behave like a normal wolf again and while this was great news, they had to act quickly because after all… he was still a wild animal.
10. PLACED HIM IN A KERNEL
After the wolf had recovered, the vets put him in a secure kernel for their as well as his safety. It was at this time that the vets started thinking about realizing the animal back in the wild. But some things had to be done before this happened.
9. MEDICAL CHECKS
The vets performed a variety of medical checks on the wolf, checking his blood as well as his sight and overall health. After they completed all their tests they happily concluded that the wild wolf was ready to be reintroduced into the wild!
8. GOODBYES
The two workers said their goodbyes to the wolf as the vets evaluated the situation and decided to reintroduce the animal into the wild themselves. The wolf’s rescuers had an emotional moment with him before leaving the veterinary clinic.
7. ON HIS WAY HOME
The vets decided to set the wild animal free near the dam where the two workers initially found it. The wolf was extraordinarily calm during his return trip and the vets were more than happy that such a wild animal was capable of cooperating in this way.
6. THEY SET HIM FREE
After arriving at the spot, the vets pulled out the safety pins of the wolf’s cage and as you’ve already guessed, the wild animal disappeared into the forest.
5. IT WENT VIRAL
Soon after the incident the story went viral in the local community.
“We are so happy for the outcome of the story, and wish to thank all the participants — especially these men who rescued the wolf and the doctors of the clinic who were not afraid to treat and nurture the wild animal,” the Estonian Union for the Protection of Animals,
4. AWARDED
The two workers as well as the vets, soon after their heroic rescue, were awarded by the Estonian Union for the Protection of Animals, for their bravery. After all they had saved a wild wolf!
3. A GPS COLLAR
The vets also had put a trackable GPS collar on the wolf, just in case the wild animal, ever needed their help again,=.
“The wolf recovered from its brush with death within the day and, after being fitted with a GPS collar by researchers from the national environmental agency, was released back into the wild.”
2. SECOND CHANCE
It was because of how brave the two workers were that this majestic creature is alive today. If the two workers didn’t follow their instinct that something was wrong, the worst could have happened,

After the incident, the two Estonian workers stated that they expect to meet the wolf again. After all their working environment is very close to the natural habitat of the wolf.
