19. BRING THE TWINS
D.J. Deiter and his fiancé Amy Walters are fortunate enough to work together as they are both employees of Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial. They are used to travelling a lot for work and they usually enjoy spending time together while also working. This business trip though, took an unexpected turn, when they decided to do something out of the ordinary.
Amy and D.J. were about to attend a conference in Florida when Amy had an idea. She always wanted to take her two twin boys to Walk Disney World, so they discussed about it and soon, they announced to their twin boys -Peyton and Bryant- that they were coming along! They were ecstatic… but not for long…
18. GREAT SWIMMERS
Peyton and Bryant were both great swimmers and really enjoy spending time at the pool. They couldn’t help but grab this opportunity to swim, even on holidays as their hotel had a pool. They packed their swimming suits and got ready and excited. Little did they know that their passion for swimming will save the day! Click next to learn how!
17. ARRIVING AT THE HOTEL
Soon, the whole family was in Florida. They had just arrived in the hotel and the boys decided to relax by swimming in the pool. “We went down a day early and stayed at a hotel near the airport,”, “With our late evening arrival, we wanted to let the boys chill out and swim before we had to check into the sales convention hotel.”
16. RELAXATION TIME
The hotel wasn’t busy during their stay and the pool was relatively empty when the boys arrived. There were only a few other visitors and a mother with her young daughters, relaxing alongside the pool. The boys had the pool all to themselves and surely took advantage of it!
15. AMY WENT TO GET READY
As the boys didn’t intend to leave the pool, Amy went back to their room to get ready for the conference, as D.J. would stay with the kids. “As always, the boys wanted to stay and swim longer,” Amy said while laughing. “So DJ said he would stay down with them and I could go pack things up and get ready to head to the convention hotel.”.
14. ONE OF THE DAUGHTERS IN DANGER
The pool was almost empty by that time. Even the mother with her young daughters started to pack her things up. in order to get back into her room. But in her attempt to collect her things, she turned her back to her daughter Charile, who was moving towards the pool, probably to have a closer look at what the boys were up to.
13. FELL INTO THE POOL
3-year-old Charlie was seeing how much fun the boys were having and wanted to take a look. Unfortunately, she slipped and fell into the pool. Her mother was still collecting her things and little Charlie didn’t know how to swim…
12. PANIC
Little Charlie soon realized that the pool was way deeper than she thought. She couldn’t remain on the surface and as the didn’t know how to swim, she panicked and didn’t know what to do. She could only start splashing water frantically!
11. THE TWINS SAW HER
Thankfully this caught the attention of Peyton and Bryant and they immediately swam as fast as possible towards her. They knew they had to help her. even though they were just young boys. There was no time to tell their dad.
10. A HEROIC DEED
The two boys knew that they were the only ones who could help her and quickly swam towards her, Peyton dove and pushed underwater while Bryant wrapped his arm around her and swam with all his strength heading up.
9. HAD TO COOPERATE
Peyton and Bryant realized that they weren’t strong enough to pull the little girl back to the surface and the quickly, without panicking decided to form a pool ladder with their body in order for the little girl to be able to grab it and pull herself in safety.
8. CHARLIE’S MOTHER RUSHED
It was this time that Charlie’s mother got aware of the danger but the boys had already saved Charlie! The crisis was averted and Charlie’s mom couldn’t help the boys enough! She was scarred yet happy, as she described later.
7. NEWS SPREAD
While saving Charlie’s life was more than enough for Peyton and Bryant. it appeared that a guest that watched the whole deed from his room was a journalist and wrote a story about them. Soon they were local heroes and every newspaper was featuring their story!
6. HEROIC DUO
We have received lots of calls, texts, and messages from family, friends… and community members who have seen the story all over the U.S.,” Amy said. “Even our local firefighters and policemen and women were excited and told them they saw them on TV.”
5. GOVERNMENT LEVEL
Soon, something unexpected happened. A representative of the state of Ohio, invited the boys into her office, praising them for their heroic efforts and naming them: “Ohio’s finest citizens”.
4. INSPIRING
“At a time when many people are content to take a passive role in life, you took an active role in helping a fellow citizen,” read the letters. “You have earned the gratitude of a young girl and her family,”, the representative said.
3. ENJOYED BEING IN THE SPOTLIGHT
As little boys, Peyton and Bryant surely enjoyed being in the spotlight. Everywhere they went. people recognized them and thanked them for saving that little girl. They even got some random high-fives and many hugs!
2. PROUD
“They are very proud of what they did and are gracious for all of the recognition and accolades and beam from ear to ear,” said Amy of her heroic boys. “They did the right thing, just like anyone should when someone is struggling.”
1. THANKS TO THEM
Charlie is alive today only because Peyton and Bryant were brave enough to not think twice and run to help her. Something terrible had been prevented only because of the bravery of the twins!
