This famous band has fans all over the world. Right before releasing their new album, they decided to do something rather strange for the fans.
At first, the band came up with a reward for the most loyal fans that had been by their side from the start.
The Mystery
The band wanted to do something special for their fan base in the United States, and they definitely left everyone baffled with their witty idea!
However, little did the fans imagine they would be hosting a huge treasure hunt! Check out the amazing treasure in the next photos.
A Treasure Hunt
The band decided to hide some items that every hardcore fan would kill for. Can you guess which?
They hid these objects at a secret location and returned back to their base to do this next thing...
Instructions
The band members updated their Facebook and Instagram pages letting fans know of their little “game”.
They provided their fans with a set of three simple rules and a riddle that one has to solve in order to find the treasure. This teen read the post and began her search!
Teenage Fan
Lindsea Taylor, a 13-year-old girl from Utah, read the post and immediately decided to take action.
In an interview with the media, she explained that she was a hardcore fan: “(I like them) a lot. A lot! Like, I only listen to their music.” Then THIS happens…
Ready To Solve The Mystery
Who wouldn’t be eager to solve a mystery? And what was even more exciting was that she would end up winning an awesome reward from her favorite band!
Lindsea had no idea what she would get or if she would find the treasure hidden by the band, but why not give it a shot?
The Rules
The band posted a message on Facebook that included rules you had to follow to find the reward. But these rules looked like a riddle.
Apart form these confusing rules, the post also included their future album's cover art. Slide next if you're curious about what the post said!
Follow These Directions
This is how the post began: “First rule of following directions, be precise; second rule of following directions, make sure your navigation tools are up to par".
"And the third and final rule of following directions is the early bird catches the worm (there is only one worm, and it’s alive and well). Happy hunting", the post concluded.
Linsdea Knew What To Do
The first time she read the rules, Lindsea got confused and wondered what those words meant. A live worm? Directions and navigation tools?
After a few minutes, it all started to make sense. She knew where to look! This is what she did next…
The Treasure Hunt Starts
“I decided to look into it further and try to figure out what it was,” Lindsea said. There had to be some hidden clue!
As the band posted the rules accompanied by the cover art, she thought it wasn’t a coincidence, so she took a closer look at the image.
Hidden Messages
The teenager had a great instinct! It appeared that the band’s new album cover “Smoke and Mirrors” contained some subtle hints.
Lindsea noticed something that looked like backward numbers… But they were not plain numbers!
Coordinates
And she was once again right! Underneath the hands in the cover art, it seemed like there was some sort of hidden message.
After a more careful inspection, Lindsea realized that these strange figures were nothing but coordinates!
A Secret Location
“I zoomed in on the picture, and I found the numbers,” she said, “and I just immediately, I was just like these are coordinates.”
She rapidly put the numbers into Google Earth and found out that these coordinates led to a location in Las Vegas.
Calling Family In Las Vegas
Lindsea couldn’t fly to Vegas so she contacted her grandfather who had some really good friends in the area.
They were more than happy to help and they helped her reach that location. When they got there, however, they found something strange.
A Cross
They were almost sure that this was the location that Lindsea was behind. Their suspicions were confirmed once they saw this.
This cross made with little pieces of stone was a clear sign that there was something hidden down there. It was the X that marked a treasure!
They Found Something
After shoveling for nearly a whole hour, they finally unearthed the treasure! You won't believe what it was.
Lindsea was thrilled and quickly managed to send a message to the band’s Facebook page, for verification! What did they find in it though?
A True Treasure
“There was a guitar signed by all the band members and a case for it,” she said. She couldn't believe it!
“There were 10 Polaroids with pictures of the band members, and they each signed it, and then there were drumsticks signed, and there was a master pass that allows me to get into all of the (“Smoke and Mirrors”) concerts that I want. Two tickets free!”, she said.
Like A Dream
Being one of the band's most hardcore fans, Lindsea was thrilled to have these things in her hands.
She said that it was like a dream and she was looking forward to meeting the members of the band, as promised!
A Great Way To Meet Fans
Lindsea admitted that she found this to be extremely cool and that she had never seen any other band do something like this.
She said that it was a great way for a band to interact with its fans, even from a distance!
Confirmation
Hours later, the band reached out to Lindsea through their Facebook page, congratulating her for her success.
They also verified that the treasure she claimed to have was indeed the real one, and of course, it was!
A New Post
The band also posted another message explaining how Lindsea had found the treasure and promised to interview her about the process.
He then wished “Happy New Year’s to all” and promised that more would follow! Does this mean there'll be future treasure hunts?
Off To The Concert
Lindsea, of course, grabbed the free pass and attended the two promised concerts. This was one of the things she was most looking forward to!
It goes without saying that she had a lot of fun and even managed to meet the band members! How lucky is she?
Expectant For More
Even though Lindsea was the big winner of this treasure hunt, there are many other hardcore fans of Imagine Dragons that are waiting patiently for them to release the next riddle!
We’re sure that the next treasure hunts and riddles will be just as interesting as this one!
Exciting Adventure
We’re so excited for the fan who found the treasure and we’re sure the band members are as well. No one expected someone so young to find it!
