A ROUTINE CHECK
Officer Michael Buellna was a police officer and in 1989 he was assigned to perform a routine check in Santa, Ana, California.
Michael was performing his scan but then he noticed some locals frantically waving him towards a nearby alley.
THERE WAS NOTHING
Michael quickly went to the alley, ready for the worst but there was nothing there. There was literally no one there and the alley was quite silent... until he heard a very faint sound, kind of like a very low meow, coming from the end of the alley.
He realized that the sound was coming from inside a dumpster. When Michael looked inside the dumpster, he couldn't believe what he saw.
AN INFANT
Michael was shocked to find a newborn baby buried under garbage, facing down at the bottom of the dumpster. He then made a even more unbelievable discovery...
The umbilical cord was still attached to the baby's body! Michael overcame his panic and called an ambulance.
HE COULDN'T SPEAK
Michael was so shocked about his discovery that he couldn't speak to the emergency responders. In his shock he wasn't even able to speak, let alone cooperate with the medics.
He wouldn't hand out the baby so he rode in the ambulance with it. They were getting to the hospital as quickly as possible. Did the baby make it?
FULL RECOVERY
Thankfully, even though the baby had suffered severe hypothermia, the doctors managed to keep it alive. It was a miracle that it was still alive and doctors told Michael that he had literally found it at the last minute.
The baby was making a slow and steady recovery, but as time passed by, more and more questions started rising. What happened?
ONLY A FEW HOURS OLD
A nurse came to Michael and informed him that the baby was literally born just hours before he found it! The nurse, trying to calm Michael down he said to him that the baby needed a name!
After a small council, they decided that this baby that had come to this world out of nowhere deserved a name. They called him Adam!
A BRIEF TENDER MOMENT
Michael held Adam for the first time in the hospital. Their tender moment was quite brief because Michael had to return to his duties.
Michael promised Adam that they would meet again. But did they? And what happened to baby Adam next?
PUT FOR ADOPTION
The story gained significant publicity from local news and national television but authorities weren't able to locate Adam's mother.
As normal practice indicates, Adam was put out for adoption. But was he lucky enough to find a family?
A LOVING FAMILY
For the first time in Adam's life. luck was with his side. Only days after he was put out for adoption, Elizabeth Barton and Daniel Fernandez were looking to adopt a baby for years, and it was finally time!
They took Adam in their loving home he became a member of the Barton family. They also changed his name to Robin!
GROWING UP NORMALLY
Even though Robin's first hours in this world were scary and filled with horror his new parents made sure that he had everything he needed and swore to raise him with care and values.
Reflecting back, Robin says that he can't believe how luck he was. It was definitely a "being in the right place in the right time" type of situation.
STARTED ASKING QUESTIONS
Elizabeth and Daniel never told Robin about his scary and lonely first hours so he could be a normal kid and grow up without any trauma.
As Robin started growing older though, he began noticing certain things and started asking questions...
TIME FOR THE TRUTH
As Robin reached adulthood, Elizabeth realized that it was time to tell him the truth and share the whole story with him.
First, she explained why they had concealed the truth for all those years. He told him about the adoption and the brave policeman that saved his life. Elizabeth was afraid that Robin would not take it well...
HE WAS GRATEFUL
To Elizabeth's surprise, Robin reacted way better than she had expected. He didn't show any anger or fear... just shock!
He said that he was forever grateful to them and he proposed an interesting idea. He wanted to meet the policeman that had saved him.
HE WAS RETIRED
At that time, Michael was a retired policeman. He had recently gone into retirement after serving the force of Santa Ana for three decades.
His colleagues say that he often talked about the dreadful day in which he had found Robin in the alley. Decades later, Michael received a weird call.
THEY MET EACH OTHER
Finally, after all those years, Michael and Robin met each other for the second time! Neither of them could believe it!
They didn't know what to say and to be honest, there isn't much to say in these situations. They stayed embraced for minutes.
MICHAEL'S MOTIVATION
Robin listened to Michael as he looked back at that fateful day. He explained that his own parents had abandoned him at a very young age and he never wanted anyone to feel like he had felt.
That's why he made sure that Robin was completely safe. He didn't want him to be grow up without a family.
HIS BIRTH FATHER
Robin was actually able to meet his birth father, too, mainly because of the fact that the story got enormous press coverage.
In fact, after his story featured on TV, the young man was able to track many people from his "other" past, including his birth father, Marcos Meza.
HIS LOST FAMILY
Instead of reacting with anger, Kevin felt blessed. He now found himself surrounded with more family than ever.
He even met Marco's daughters - in other words, his sisters! He suddenly had lots of relatives with whom to catch up with!
HIS MOTHER
Robin was not able to find his birth mother, but you won't believe why! After some research, they found out that his mother, Sabrina Diaz, had spent years in prison and had then been deported to Mexico.
Robin said that he doesn't believe that his mother is a villain. She must have had a tough life and deserves his empathy.
SURROUNDED BY LOVE
Who could imagine that this baby would find himself surrounded with so many loving and caring family members after going through such a rough start in life?
Without a doubt, he owes it to Michael! To this day, Michael and Kevin keep in touch and their bond is stronger than ever. Isn't that touching?
