Lawachhora Jungle – A National Park of Bangladesh

Today I am going to introduce the Lawacchora Jungle – one of the beautiful places of the country.If you are already in Bangladesh, you must have  heard about the “Lawachhora Jungle”. Your tour to Bangladesh will be a memorable one, if you visit the wildlife beauty of Lawachhora. In 1996, it was made as National Park.

There is a little upajilla (sub – district) named Srimongol at Moulvibazar district, which is actually the place of Lawachhora. It is at 60 kilometers southern from Sylhet city. If you go to there from Dhaka(The capital of Bangladesh ), you have to spend Bangladeshi Taka. 300-400 (around $5) in case of by road (by bus) or BDT. 265-380 by train (from Komlapur Railway Station, Dhaka). You can take bus ticket from Saydabad bus-stand. You can hire a private car if you want to reach Srimongol within less time. After reaching Srimongol, Lawachhora is just a kilometer far from there, on the way to near by upozilla Komolgonj.

Lawachhora have a huge amount of wildlife beauty. The following animals are found there: Rhesus Macaque, Slow Loris, Assamese Macaque, Pig-tailed Macaque, Capped Langur, Hoolock Gibbon, Leaf Monkey, Jackal, Sloth Bear, Wild Dog, Leopard, Yellow-throated Marten, Fishing Cat, Wild Pig, Leopard Cat, Barking Deer, and Sambar etc.

There are also some accommodation facilities of various levels in Srimongol as well as in Lawachhora. Such as Sandya Hotel (mid-level), Tea Resort, Guest House of tea town. There is also a BTRI Guest House available for lodging. If you pass your night with a horrible experience you may stay at the Lawachhora Rest House, which is at the middle of the forest. Please do not worry about your meals, because there are also some quality restaurants of different tastes for you.

Additional information for you is that, the average temperature of Lawachhora varies from 10°C to 33°C. Total area is about 13 square kilometer, so you have to go a long way to cover full forest.
