20 Dogs That Live The Longest

Dogs are wonderful animals. Who can deny it? For all those with canine pets, you will feel identified when I say that they have watched you grow, they’ve seen you at your worst and your best, and you’ve seen theirs as well. But do you know how old your dog can live? Check out the following list to know more about the longest life-lasting breeds out there.

#20. Boykin Spaniel

The Boykin Spaniel is a hunter dog by nature. They are incredibly skilled and agile, and they have a sharp nose and sight. Their main preys are birds of most kinds including ducks. Random fact: did you know that the South Carolina legislature named the Boykin spaniel the official state dog in 1984?

Boykin Spaniels live up to 16 years and are full of energy. Coming home to this breed will make you instantly smile. It’s impossible not to form a life bond with them.

#19. New Guinea Singing Dog

The New Guinea Singing Dog lives 18 to 20 years, which is pretty amazing considering one year in ‘dog life’ is about seven of ours. Just imagine, this handsome young fella could be 120 years!

This curious breed is actually known because of its curious howl that has quite a musical sound and I just love it! Unfortunately, the lovely Singing Dog is found only in Papua New Guinea, so you’ll have to travel quite a bit in order to pet this beauty.

Chihuahuas are one of Hollywood’s favorite. In the last years so many movies have featured this funny looking dog, that the film industry has popularized the breed. In spite of their tiny size, guess what? They can live up to 17 to 20 years. If you’re asking yourself how this can be possible, well, wonder no longer!

It happens to be that this breed is actually pretty immune to genetic disorders, so this increases their chances of a longer and healthier life. #17. Jack Russell Terrier

If you’ve ever come across a Jack Russell Terrier you’ll understand why they’re on the list. They are as close as you’ll ever come across bubbles of vitality and youth. They are extremely energetic, and they are most happy when given companionship or a job to do.

But not only do they jump, play, and generally just exude great spirit. Apart from that, they can live up to 16 to 20 years. The question is, could you keep up with them?

#16. Toy Poodle

Toy Poodles are wonderful dogs. They have a wonderful vibe to them, and they always seem so refined. This elegant dog will be a faithful companion for at least 16 to 20 years. Basically, they’re just like chihuahuas: tiny but long-lived!

A personal tip: try out great hairstyles on this dog, and you won’t be disappointed. As a matter of fact, did you know that poodles’ hair never stops growing? So even if you don’t fancy original hairstyles, you can’t avoid taking them to the vet to have their hair cut every once in a while! They make wonderful confidants as well.

#15. Cockapoo

Cockapoo is actually a hybrid breed that results from the cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a poodle. Not only are they the kindest and most loving dogs ever, but they have a fantastic name as well. It sounds like one of those made-up words that you say to babies, doesn’t it?

#14. Rat-Cha

Just like the cockapoo, the Rat-cha results from the cross between two breeds. In this case, the Terrier and a Chihuahua. We’ve mentioned before that both of these are quite long-lived, so it’s only natural that this one is as well.

The cute Rat Cha can live up to 16 to 18 years and they love to cuddle. If you’re looking for a life partner to snuggle in your lap while you read or watch movies, look no more. And don’t their three-colored faces look dashing?

#13. Ratese

Another hybrid is the Ratese, which results from the cross between the Rat Terrier and the Maltese. These funny looking dogs are absolutely hilarious. They will make you laugh, and they are pretty much ideal life partners since they live up to 18 years.

Just like the Maltese, they have a long and silky white coat that hangs down to the ground. But their cuteness is not their only feature. You must be warned that the Ratese loves to steal the show. If they’re not constantly the center of attention, they’ll be up for doing mischief.

The Lagotto Romagnolo is a wonderful dog with a wonderful name. They’re so huggable, that you’ll have to resist the temptation of swarming them with kisses and love. They kind of look like a mini English Shepherd, don’t they?

You will probably find this incredibly adorable breed in farms. Not only are they eye-candy but they are great workers as well. They have an outstanding sense of smell and can be trained easily. Apart from this, they live from 15 up to 17 years.

Look at this bubbly little dog; what do you think it looks like? Is it too far fetched to say it kind of looks like a lion? Probably it’s way too harmless to resemble anything like a predator. And to your surprise, these dogs are actually more than a thousand years old.

Shih Tzus can live up to 20 years and were actually bred by the Chinese to honor the Fierce lion, aiming to create a look-alike. Even though they failed on that front, no one can deny the result was too lovable. I’ll take up this cute beast anytime.

#10. Lhasa Apso

Have you ever seen a hairstyle more fabulous than this? Impossible. The Lhasa Apso are incredibly soft, and they have a long, thick, straight coat that can come in different shades of black, white, gold and red. But apart from their beautiful hair, they also have a curious history.

Long ago, these dogs used to keep guard in the Himalayan temples found in Tibet. I’d be up for this one keeping me safe. Besides, they are considered sacred due to the widespread belief that the souls of the deceased enter the body of this dog after death. Spooky! Apart from all this, they live up to 15 years.

#9. Ratshi Terrier

The Ratshi Terrier is also a mix of two toy breed dogs, the American Rat Terrier and the Shih Tzu. They have a strong personality, let me tell you that. It can become very jealous and possessive and will want to be the center of your affections.

On the other hand, this breed was actually used to deal with rat infestations, so there’s a great benefit to its temper. Besides, their small size makes them ideal for those who live in small apartments. They can live up to 20 years but don’t forget to pet and give it all your attention.

This canine can live between 15 to 18 years and is actually the result of a cross between a chihuahua and the Havanese. But they don’t look like chihuahuas, don’t they?

#7. Australian Shepherd

The Australian Shepherd is actually native to California. Surprised? In spite of this, the small continent embraced this breed. These tender dogs worked side by side with local shepherds and aided in guiding the sheep.

Today you will find them much closer to home, and they love some good company. However, they go crazy with excitement when they are let free to run. In fact, the Australian Shepherd shown in the picture looks quite excited himself. Or maybe he was just smiling for the photo. Besides, they can live up to 18 years.

#6. Rattle Griffon

Such a serious-looking dog, the Rattle Griffon is a personal favorite. I have to admit, this has much to do with the fact that this breed looks like a wise old man. An old man that doesn’t shave… because look at its ginger beard!

This hybrid comes from the cross between Rat Terriers and Brussels Griffons. They’re exercise maniacs and enjoy great health that shows because they can live between 15 to 18 years old. You can’t really tell by the photo above how big they are, but it happens to be that they’re rather small: they weigh 15 pounds at the very most.

#5. Rattle

Rattles are a hybrid of the American Rat Terrier and the Poodle. This curly dog looks great and intellectual with that cute red sweater. Where can I get one of those? Besides, rattles can live up to 18 years and will make a place in your heart.

They don’t only look the part, but they are sharp and cunning as well as smart. Moreover, their curly hair is quite cute. But only one downside: they tend to bark quite a lot. So go buy those earplugs and get used to it.

#4. Jack Chi

If you’re into outdoor activity, then you definitely need a Jack Chi as your buddy. These small companions are a burst of energy and really hyperactive. In fact, it is believed that they have been bred for companionship purposes.

This photo makes me laugh so much! Just look at him, have you ever seen anything so endearing¡ The Lacasapoo is a designer dog, a hybrid between Lhasa Apso and the Cockapoo… quite an interesting combination.

The result is excessive cuteness. However, there comes a price with looking this gorgeous and that is not only the buying price but also the maintenance of this breed. However, we can admire it at a distance.

#2. Pomchi

Small dogs are my weakness, but aren’t they everyone’s? Look at how the owner picks up the two babies, it just makes my heart melt. The Pomchi is a hybrid between Pomeranian and Chihuahua. So basically they’re like a chihuahua, but with hair.

They can live up to 15 to 18 years old and they love their homes. Once they get settled they will become attached and it is extremely likely that an incredible bond will form with these tender canines. Beware, they can sometimes get a temper.

#1. Pom-Coton

The Pom-Coton just looks like a fluffy toy and I love it. They live up to 16 years and they have unique features that set them apart. I’m sure you won’t resist their charms, once they start insisting you throw the ball. Just look at this little thing!

Besides, these dogs are playful and loyal. Did you know it is a hybrid between Pomeranian and Coton de Tulear? That’s actually where it gets its name from. Basically, they’re like Pomeranians, but only smaller and darker. They’re so cute and beautiful, that they really deserved to be in the top of our list!
