20. NO PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION
The members of the royal family has to absolutely never display their affection to their significant others in public. Even if they’re married, they’re not supposed to hold hands and kiss. Despite all of these, prince Harry was known not be able to hide his enthusiasm for his soon-to-be wife Megan and broke this weird rule, multiple times! 19. NO GARLIC OR SHELLFISH
Royals are supposed to absolutely avoid eating garlic or shellfish in dinners, especially public ones. But why? The rule for shellfish seems to be in order for them to avoid getting food poisoning. 18. NO CHRISTMAS GIFTS
The members of the royal family aren’t allowed to open any gifts for Christmas. All presents have to be exchanged on Christmas Eve in the red drawing room. It’s worth mentioning that the royal family tends to buy gag gifts to each other instead of serious ones.
17. MONOPOLY BAN
This is a pretty weird one. The famous board game was popular among the royal family but it tended to lead into some nasty arguments so the queen decided to do something for it. The Queen has officially banned Monopoly, a drastic measure for emergency situations!
16. ALWAYS BLACK LOOKS ON TRIPS
There are some essential things that everybody takes with them when they’re traveling but the Royals have to make room in their suitcases for something extra. All members of the royal family have to carry a black outfit with them on their trips just in case a member of the family dies. This would be the only way to pay their respects from a distance.
15. SECRET BABY’S GENDER
When a baby is about to join the royal family it is a strict rule for the parents to hide the baby’s gender from the public. British people are obsessed with this rule and try to guess the baby’s gender through little hints that they Royals may accidentally give.
14. ORCHESTRATED DINNER & LUNCH
The Queen herself have to follow some rules, even when she is about to enjoy her dinner or lunch. At the start of her meal, the Queen has to engage into a conversation with whoever happens to sit in the right of them. Half-way through the dinner her attention has to shift to the person on her left.
13. ESSENTIAL HEADWEAR
You may have noticed that the members of the royal family tend to wear some pretty weird outfits… especially headwear! That’s not happening without a reason though and that reason is not attract attention from the press. Women in Britain showed their hair rarely before the 50’s and the royal family keeps this old tradition.
12. HEIRS NOT TRAVELING TOGETHER
The royal family has to protect the heirs of the throne and preserve the royal bloodline, hence this rule. Heirs to the throne aren’t allowed to travel together or at the same time, especially to fly. However Prince William prefers to fly with hi son George anyway.
11. BOYS WEAR SHORTS
Did you know that if you’re a member of the royal family, you can’t wear full-length trousers before the age of eight? This is because there is the belief that boys under this age aren’t mature enough to wear full length pants and must wear shorts… no matter the season!
10. RULES FOR TIARAS
The women of the royal family get their tiaras on their wedding day as the tiara is considered to be the fanciest of all accessories. Tiaras mustn’t be worn before 6pm and are only worn by married women!
9. MEETING THE QUEEN
Whoever you are, even if you are a member of the royal family there are some strict rules that you have to follow each time you’re interacting with the queen. First of all you mustn’t turn your back to her and only speak when you’re spoken. Absolutely don’t touch her and leave after she has already left!
8. LEGS TOGETHER WHEN SITTING
Women of the royal family must always keep their legs together and their chin parallel to the ground in order to maintain the royal look. They have to look confident and impressive and this rule seems to achieve that.
7. DRIVE FREE
The power of the queen doesn’t end at the palace. The Queen has the right to drive on her own, even without a driving license and license plates! The former only applies within the U.K.
6. NO AUTOGRAPHS
The Royals are extremely popular but they unfortunately can’t hand any autographs. This is to protect their official signature of falling into the wrong hands and be copied. They’re not likely to accept a selfie request either but they’ll be friendly with you if you meet them.
5. PURSE SIGNALS
The guards of the Queen are obligated to keep an eye on her purse at every time. This obviously isn’t to prevent her purse being stolen but it’s because the Queen usually express her feeling through her interaction with her purse. For example, if the Queen wants to leave, she’s most likely to hold her purse with her right hand.
4. GREETING THE QUEEN
There is a set of specific rules, that everyone has to follow when greeting the Queen. Men has to perform a neck boy and women curtsy. This is done to pay respect to her Majesty at all times.
3. BRIGHT COLORS
The Queen’s clothes have to be bright stunning in order for her to be recognized among masses of people. This way she can be spotted on the spot by people who seek to see her and obviously for safety reasons.
2. NO CLEAVAGE
Did you know that Royal women aren’t allowed to show cleavage at any time? Some women though dislike this rule and come up with other solutions to cover their cleavage. For instance, Diana used her purse to cover herself.

As mentioned before, the Royals seem to usually follow old traditions. One of these traditions is to ask permission from the other family members in order to get married. Until today, this rule hasn’t be broken.
