When Luci Hall and Joseph Barker dreamt about starting a family, they had no idea they will go through a nightmare pregnancy. Both in their mid-20s, they were not prepared to face all the difficulties that would lie ahead. At the beginning of 2017, Luci’s wish to become a mom became true. She found out she was pregnant. But learning that she was pregnant with twins that were quite in a hurry to be born after 24 weeks of pregnancy wasn’t the best news she wanted to hear…
Here is the heart-warming story of Charlie and Harvey, the tiny twins.

Luci Hall learned she was pregnant back in 2017. At 12 weeks of pregnancy, she went for a routine test which would soon turn into awesome news: she wasn’t pregnant with just one baby, but with two! Yes, Hall would be expecting twins! Unfortunately, things wouldn’t get easy for the soon-to-be mom…
19. A DIFFICULT PREGNANCY
The mom had no idea that her pregnancy would be difficult. She received news that her babies had a condition called twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). This rare condition makes one twin receive more blood and nutrients than the other. Starting from there, she had to endure scans after scans, and that’s just the beginning of it!
18. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE
When she heard about TTTS, she recalls in an interview that the “whole pregnancy was a nightmare,” saying that it wasn’t what she imagines starting a family would look like. But that wasn’t all – a lot more complications were underway… You won’t believe what happened soon after that!
17. THE WATER BROKE
Hall was 20 weeks into her pregnancy when her water broke! She was immediately taken to the hospital, as the babies were too hurried to get out. The two babies would finally be born a few weeks later, at five-and-a-half months after being conceived. But were they fine? This is where the couple had to patiently wait and find out…
16. TO THE INTENSIVE CARE
Hall and Barker welcomed their two sons in May 2017. They named them Charlie and Harvey but didn’t have much time to bond with the two newborns. Hall stated in an interview with the Daily Mirror that the twins “were both rushed straight to intensive care. I didn’t get to hold them or see them.”
15. TINY BABIES
The father only got time to take two rushed photos before the babies were taken to the IC. A few hours later, the mother got to see her babies. When she looked at them, she was brought to tears and stunned to see how little they were! A baby could easily fit in her palm, but this was not something she was happy about…
14. MIGHT NOT MAKE IT…
The doctors told the parents to prepare in case the babies don’t make it. Usually, the babies that are born in the 24th week don’t have great chances of survival. According to the U.K.’s Twins and Multiple Births Association spokesperson, they have almost 50% survival chance or 50% risk of having a sort of disability.
13. SLIM CHANCES OF SURVIVAL
The mother didn’t get reassurance from the doctors, and she knew that the first hours were critical: “Their chances of survival were so slim that we were told to take it hour by hour. They told us not to think about the future because it was so uncertain.” But did the twins give up?
12. NOT GIVING UP
Apparently, the boys had no intention of losing their fight to survive. They spent a month in intensive care and finally their mom could cuddle them. She said that the feeling was amazing and that it gave her and her husband hope “because we knew then that they were getting stronger.”
11. FIGHTING FOR MONTHS
The twins never gave up their fight after months of tests and procedures. At the end of September 2017, they were ready to go home. Finally, the light at the end of the tunnel was close. But when things felt too good to be true, some other bad news came along…
10. BACK TO THE HOSPITAL
Harvey was not ready to go home. By the end of October, the mom had to take him back, as he showed signs of illness. Then, seven long months would follow, with desperate parents asking themselves when they will be able to enjoy time with their boys.
9. SEPARATING THE BOYS
That period felt like torture for the mom, who had to separate the twins. In the interview, she said that it was heartbreaking to separate them, as they “had been together every step of the way and tearing them apart was horrendous.” What happened to Harvey?
8. HARVEY GOT BETTER

In the hospital, Harvey received treatment that by the end of August 2018, made him look bigger than Charlie! He had half a pound more than Charlie who weighed 20 pounds! Both babies seemed to be fine, and they could finally fit their outfits that were designed for nine-month-old babies.
7. “THEY’RE AMAZING”
The mom was happy with the progress her babies made. She couldn’t believe how well they were doing:
“They’re amazing. I couldn’t be more proud of Charlie and Harvey, they’re my heroes.” Moreover, the babies bonded again! Here’s what happened when Harvey was in the hospital…
6. THE TWIN BOND
Luci said that Charlie would come with her to the hospital to visit his brother. She said that in the beginning, he “was restless but then he started to hold Harvey’s hand and really look after him.” Since Harvey got back home, they also got back their twin bond!
5. A PROUD MOM
The two parents look at their babies every day and are both shocked seeing how great they’re both doing. Luci said that she is the “proudest mum in the world” and everything they went through make them love and “appreciate my boys so much more.”
4. ABOUT ABORTION
But her story ends with a change of perspective. Hall has new views on abortion. According to the U.K. law, the termination of a pregnancy can be done up to 24 weeks. Thus, the young mother is now appalled at the thought… Here’s what she said about it.
3. AN AWFUL THOUGHT
The idea of terminating a pregnancy in the 24th weeks is awful, explained Luci, who said that she even signed a petition to change the law:
“The thought of anyone getting rid of a baby that late is just awful.”
2. ABORTIONS IN THE UK
England, Wales, and Scotland accept abortions before 24 weeks of pregnancy. In some cases that threaten the mother’s life or the child ends up with a severe disability, doctors can carry out an abortion after 24 weeks of pregnancy.
1. THE HEALTHY TWINS ARE 15 MONTHS OLD!
Thankfully, Charlie and Harvey showed that with the help of medics, even the smallest babies can grow and thrive. Hall concluded that her twins are “both little fighters” and that “they proved everyone wrong.” Now they are 15 months old and happily live with their parents!
