Everyone dreams about the day they would get married, especially little girls. They wonder how their dresses would be, who will be the other half or how the cake should look. Of course, one of the most important moments of the day is when the bride is being given away. Usually, the father or a senior man of the family had that honor. This bride’s wedding in Poland would top any other wedding because she was given away by her grandfather, who was a World War II veteran!

20. THE WAR HERO
This war hero has completed the last mission in his life by walking his granddaughter down the aisle and giving her away to a very emotional groom – #16. The entire moment was filmed and uploaded on YouTube, gathering millions of views and beautiful reactions from people all over the world. Here’s more about the story…
19. HARD TO FIGHT BACK THE TEARS
When the groom saw the Polish war hero slowly walking by the side of the bride, he broke into tears. We might not personally know the families or the newlyweds, but it’s difficult not to get all teary. The ceremony was held in Bialystok, which is close to Poland’s border with Belarus.
18. A PROUD GRANDFATHER
Even though extremely weak at 94 years old and ill, Bronislaw was a proud grandfather that would accomplish his last mission. He accompanied his beautiful granddaughter Joanna down the aisle. He wore his military gear which was filled with the medals he received for his bravery during his service.

Guests at the ceremony were emotional and wept as they saw the bride taking small steps and breathing deeply, trying to keep calm. Her grandfather is visibly shaking, resting on his cane. However, he gathers his energy and continues to walk. The groom is seen biting his lips…

15. BRONISLAW GROM KARWOWSKI
Bronislaw ‘Grom’ Karwowski led his granddaughter into the church on her wedding day clothed with his military regalia and many medals. Although he was very ill, he did not stop from performing his last duty. The Armed Forces said that the hero showed the same determination as he served his country in the past.
14. THE POLISH RESISTANT AGAINST NAZIS
Karwowski was among the most decorated Polish veterans of World War II. He participated in the Warsaw Uprising and was part of the Polish resistance against the Nazis. He was even captured by the Nazi but finally escaped from the Gestapo’s headquarters in Lomza, Poland. And that was not the end of his journey…
13. SENTENCED FOR 10 YEARS BY THE COMMUNISTS
After escaping from the Nazis, the war hero got arrested by the Communist government in Poland and received a 10-year long sentence for resisting the authoritarian regime which came after WWII.

12. THE KNIGHT’S CROSS
Karwowski received the Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland for serving the Polish nation. Unfortunately, two days after walking his granddaughter down the aisle, Bronislaw Karwowski died. 11. A GRIM DAY – 1ST SEPTEMBER 2018
“We regret to announce that today, on 1st September 2018, on the 79th anniversary of Germany’s assault on Poland, the national hero and insurgent of the Warsaw Uprising in 1944, Major Bronislaw Karwowski retired to the eternal guard,” wrote the Polish National Armed Forces on social media, adding that the war hero was 94 years old.
10. THE LAST PRECIOUS MOMENTS
After so many years of serving Poland, Major Bronislaw Karwowski has lived a full life and got the honor to see his granddaughter get married before he could finally rest. According to the Armed Forces, the war hero also received the “Silver Cross of Merit with Swords, the Cross of the National Armed Deed and many others.”
9. WWII ENDED WITH THE LOSS OF ALMOST 20% POLES
The Second World War ended with many losses for Poland. There were 6 million deaths, which was a loss of almost 20% of Polish population – making it the greatest number of deaths compared to the number of population.

In 1944, the Warsaw Uprising was the most courageous act of resistance against the Nazis. There were almost 50,000 Polish fighters who got to remove the Germans from central Warsaw before being crushed.

Bronislaw died of his illnesses two days after his granddaughter’s wedding, as if he was waiting for it and then finally allowing himself to rest. Our thoughts are with the soldier’s family, and we hope that he finds peace, wherever he is now.
