To save money on your dog grooming bill, you should consider doing the grooming yourself. You will need a brush, comb, dog grooming scissors, thinning scissors, dog toe nail clippers, dog nose scissors and tweezers if you choose to do this.
Take your dog and your supplies outdoors and stand him on a mat. Make sure that you have a lot of treats available.
Begin by running your hand through your dog’s hair in search of mats, knots, fleas and ticks. You should also use a de-matting comb and some children’s detangling spray to brush him thoroughly.
Take a soft, damp cloth and some warm water to gently clean your dog’s eyes and ears. You should also place some rubbing alcohol in his ears and then wipe it out with a dry cotton ball in order to get rid of any mites and bacteria.
Now you should brush your dog’s teeth with a toothbrush. You could also purchase a dental kit from your local pet store to use.
Once all of this grooming is done, you should use a pair of scissors to trim his coat. Make sure that you read the instructions before you get started so as to protect both you and your pet from injury.
You can now give your dog a bath. Make sure to begin by wetting him thoroughly with warm water then apply some pet shampoo and work it into his coat. Once your dog is lathered up you will want to rinse him off thoroughly. Sqeeze any extra water out of his coat then either towel dry or hairdry him.
