Prostitution in the Philippines
Prostitution in the Philippines is a very rampant act. People of different ages engage in this kind of activity. They engage in this kind of activity because they are able to earn money faster compared to working for it through a descent job. Some people even consider this as their profession or as their main source of livelihood. Although prostitution in the Philippines is a very rampant act, it should not be tolerated but should be strictly prohibited.
One reason is that prostitution causes harm and diseases to many people. First, it causes many Sexually Transmitted Diseases or STDs to people. These STDs would then have many harmful and fatal effects to a person’;s health which could even lead to the death of the person. Second, it serves as a venue for abusive acts towards the people who engage in this activity. Many people who engage in this activity are often abused physically, such as having bruises, broken bones and black eyes, or psychologically, such as stress, anxiety and eating disorder. Lastly, it causes sexual exploitation to the people who engage in this activity. It serves as a venue for people to release their sexual urges and abuse people who engage in this activity.
Another reason is that prostitution is against the societal norms, ethics and moral. First, it is considered an illegal act in the Philippines. There is the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003 which aims to promote human dignity and to protect people from any threat of violence and exploitation such as prostitution. Second, it has already become a societal norm that people who engage in this activity are bad because what they are doing is illegal. In our present society, people who engage in illegal acts such as prostitution are seen as bad and may be carriers of fatal diseases such as HIV. Lastly, it is against the good moral and right conduct which is considered in the Philippines wherein people are conservative and reserved. Thus an act like prostitution is really against the good moral and right conduct which people in the Philippines consider.
The last reason is that prostitution is against the teachings and the words of God. First, our body is a temple of the Hold Spirit. It should be respected and taken care of, so one should not engage in prostitution. Second, our body is to be used for doing good things and it would be a sin in the eyes of God if we would use our body in engaging in prostitution. Lastly, our body is a gift from God. We should be responsible enough to take care of this gift to us from God and we should use this wisely and with accordance to His teachings.
It is given that prostitution in the Philippines is very rampant. But despite the fact that prostitution is very rampant in the Philippines and many people engage in this activity, it should still be prohibited for 3 main reasons. First, prostitution causes harm and diseases to many people. Second, prostitution is against the societal norms, ethics and moral. Lastly, prostitution is against the teachings of God. So it is very clear that prostitution in the Philippines should strictly be prohibited.
