Sunday’;;;s Manchester derby at the Etihad stadium will be the 166th competitve meeting between City and United, and so far the visitors have notched up 69 victories while the home side have 46 and there have been 50 draws. But which have been the most notable classic encounters?

Manchester Derbies

The first match between the two clubs took place 3 October 1891 on the ground of Red devils and saw the victory of the latter 5-1. Historically, the balance tips in favor of the Red Devils with 67 wins against 43 losses and 50 draws in all competitions. The last confrontation dated saw City win 6-1 against United at the 9th day of the Premier League 2011-2012 in 2011. After a period of purgatory in the second division, City picked taste of the elite since 2000 but struggled to establish itself in the middle of the Big Four and outsiders ( Aston Villa , Everton , Tottenham Hotspur ) which made confrontations less power. While the rivalry with Liverpool FC remains at the top level of the sport with two clubs, with the City seems to take the braid. Statements of Sir Alex Ferguson reflected: “Manchester City is the richest team in the world, but United still the best team in the world.” Ryan Giggs confirmed this trend: “United have a status and history that s is nurtured for years. In addition, the club has played legendary players like Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best  . ”
Despite some flashes of brilliance in recent seasons, City will succeed only very rarely compete with its neighbor. Nevertheless, City won both derbies in 2007-2008: 1-0 at home thanks to Geovanni and 2-1 in Old Trafford with Darius Vassell and Benjani just arrived from Portsmouth Football Club while Michael Carrick reduce the brand. It was 25 years since City had not won both confronted them during a season.
However, Sir Alex, the real derby is that the opponent in Liverpool.
