The government of Umaru Shehu Musa Yar’adua is known to every Nigerian for its slow pace at work. Most Nigerians do not believe he is working at all. Two years have gone by and Nigerians still insist the man has achieved anything that deserve an applause. His seven-point agenda is as annoying as any other thing he is talking about his government as nothing has left the drawing board of his dreams two years after.
An illegality was witnessed in the 2007 general elections which brought in Yar’adua and his class of governor who flew the same party flag with him during the electioneering campaign. Among the results that came out from the voodoo kitchen of the electoral umpire everybody in Nigeria calls Maurice Iwu, that of the Ekiti state gubernatorial election was said to be crooked. But the adamant umpire told everybody to go to hell. Two years later, the Appeal court in Nigeria upturned that fraud given as election result in Ekiti and the then Governor Mister Segun Oni lost his plum job. The court insisted that results in 64 wards in ten local government areas were cooked and voided Oni’s victory.
Today, the people of Ekiti state have trooped out to vote once again amidst the heavy presense of security. But what causes panic in the hearts of Ekiti indigenes is the presense of armed-to-the-teeth military men after the presidency came out to say that soldiers would not be deployed to Ekiti state for the re-run. News reaching Nigerians from Ekiti is saying that the presidency have reneged on their earlier promise not to cause fear to reign in the lives of Ekiti indigenes knowing that soldiers knows nothing but unleashing terror.
