Craigslist is a website for classified ads.  It is a private company.  It was founded in 1995.  The headquarters located in San Francisco, USA.  It covers 570 cities in 50 countries.  Its service is web communications.  It has more than 30 employees in its office.  Alexa ranks it 45 in 2013.  It can be seen in languages like English, French, German, Dutch,  Spanish, Italian, Portuguese.  It was founded by Craig Newark. 

Jim Buckmaster is a current Chief Executive Officer of Craigslist.  He is associated with this company since January 2000.  He created a network of Craigslist in multiple cities.  It has a search engine, discussion forums, process of posting by yourself, decoration of the homepage, categories of personals.

A section called “Gigs” is seen on Craigslist.  There are many low-cost, internships jobs. 

Craigslist is viewed by 20 billion people per month.  Every month 80 million new classified ads are posted!!!  The job seekers can find 2 million new jobs at Craigslist.  About 3 lakh posting of “for sale” and housing are seen on craigslist., 

Unlike other advertisement sites, Craigslist has a flagging system of the user.  It marks the adult posts.  It also points out the illegal items.  There are three categories under which flagging is done and they are miscategorized, prohibited, and spam. 

Craigslist enlists adult services and a charge of $10 is taken.  The post is renewed for $5.  The adult advertisements have generated a revenue of $44 million this year.  But under the protest of citizens of Ottawa and other areas, Craigslist closed Erotic Services on December 19, 2010.

Craigslist has a nonprofit venture and it is known as Craigslist Foundation.  It is registered under 501 (c) (3).  This helps in community building under all strata.  The donations are accepted.  It helps other NGOs to help people under financial difficulty.
