Filipinos are known to be religious. Every Sunday they go to church to respect the third commandment of God, to keep the Sabbath holy. They follow the rules of respecting elders because they think that elders are right. Filipino families pray the 3 o’clock prayer (Divine Mercy’s Prayer) and the 6 o’clock prayer (Angelus). Cebuanos celebrate Sinulog, festivals of the Saints, Mother Mary’s birthday, Christmas and Lenten season.
Lenten Season is the way to remember Christ’s death. Jesus sacrificed himself to save us from our sins. He preached the Gospel to let us know that there is a chance to salvation. It is a week of sincere repentance and prayer. Jesus’s story and stories of conversion are being showed in the TV here in the Philippines. The images and statues of the Saints are covered with purple cloth to tell that Jesus had died. Purple is the color for repentance. Cebuanos go to different churches and attend masses. Cebuanos don’t eat meat to fast. Cebuanos also go to Good Shepherd to visit the different Stations of the Cross. Good Shepherd is located at Banawa, Cebu City, Philippines.
THE WAY TO THE CROSS
On the day that He was to be caught, He was betrayed by Judas Iscariot in exchange for thirty silver coins. He was mocked by the soldiers and gave Him a crown full of thorns. He was denied by Peter as being seen with Christ’s before Christ was given to the soldiers. He was persecuted by Pontius Pilate. Jesus carried the cross to the Place of Skull. Mary cried when He saw Him fall. Then a Cyrenian named Simon helped Him but the soldiers did not allow him. Then they crucified Him on the cross. Then there was a thief who believed in Him and asked Jesus to remember him. Jesus said “I assure you: this day you will be with me in paradise.” Then Jesus cried out “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Then He lost his breath. His body was placed in the tomb by one of his disciples. Then it was guarded by soldiers. Then there was an earthquake, for the angel of the Lord, came and rolled away the stone. The guards were trembled and they ran away. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary visit the tomb and they saw the angel. The angel told them “Jesus has risen, go and tell the disciples and He will see you in Galilee.”
Jesus loves us so much that He carried our cross to save us. He showed us the greatest love of all. He leads us to the right path, the right path that will make us happy. We should follow the teachings of Jesus. We should be sincere in everything. We should be honest. We should love one another. We should ask guidance from the Lord in everything that we will do. We should believe in Him. We should not hurt others. If we hurt others, we are hurting Jesus. The carrying of the cross means that we should have a direction in our lives. We should take responsibilities. We should not lose hope for there is resurrection. Although we are not perfect, we repeat mistakes, we should ask for guidance and salvation.
