As a child, I can remember having certain desires. I have no idea where these desires came from. All I know is that they were strong. As I grew some of those desires became visions. Visions of the future. Visions of the kind of life I wanted to have. Some of my visions have come to pass, some are coming to pass and some I’m still working on. I believe that we all were made to do certain things in life. We were all created to serve God in certain capacities. The dreams, hopes, and desires that are within us were placed there by God for us to “give birth” to them. Likewise the talents we possess supplemented by education and training, were given to us to complement our dreams and to help us succeed in the calling God placed on our lives. We can own nice homes, drive nice cars, have healthy bank accounts and display lifestyles that the world considers “successful” but if we aren’t fulfilling the calling, image or dream that God placed within us, we will never experience the full joy that God intended for us to have. I remember 3.5 floppy disks (again, I’m dating myself). When purchased new, these disks had to be formatted before they could be used. Just as we all have different personalities, we are all “formatted” to produce whatever vision God has placed on the inside of us.
Now here’s the good part…
Isn’t it amazing that when water comes into contact with soil, something grows (provided the soil is not damaged or robbed of its nutrients)? Even if no seed has been planted and no care has been given to the soil, if you continuously pour water on soil something will begin to grow. It may be grass, it may be weed, it may even be moss but some reaction will inevitably take place.
Water and its cleansing properties can be used to symbolize God’s Word (John 4:14, Ephesians 5:26) and the soil can be symbolic of the heart or spirit of man (Luke 8:15). As we continue to bathe our hearts with the mighty waters of God’s Word something will begin to grow. And when that which is inside you begins to grow and mature you will awaken one day to find that you are living the dream in the real world that you carried inside you for so long. And when that which God has programmed you to do manifests in your life you will experience joy unspeakable. I want to encourage you to continue watering the ground of your heart and nurture the vision that God placed on the inside of you.
Delight thyself in the Lord (continuously water your heart) and He shall give thee the desires of thy heart (the plant will grow up and become…). Psalm 37:4
