The best workout
People will always try to look for the most effective workout. Something that will get them toned as fast as possible. The thing is, most people can’t handle this kind of high intensity workouts and tend to “cheat” by doing less reps than the intended amount or, even worst, by half-assing the reps. The solution for not being able to keep up with the workout is not to cheat but to reduce the workload. It is only natural not being able to do high a intensity workout right of the bat, so don’t be discouraged and, even if you think that the amount you are doing is too little, you have to realize that it is not. You have to start somewhere and there is no shame in doing an easy workout when you start, just remember to increase the workload every once in a while.
Increasing workout intensity
One rule you should try to follow is to stay out of your confort zone. The moment you start to get used to your workout is the moment you kick it up a notch increasing the intensity of your exercises. You can do this by increasing the amount of reps, lifting more weight, adding exercises or in any way you (or your trainer, coach, etc) see fit.
Being in a class or having a personal trainer helps a lot. Most people get to a point where they think they can’t go on and just stops or starts half-assing the reps, but when they are in a group or have a personal trainer, the competitive environment, the fun from being in a group and maybe even, in some cases, the shame of not being able to do something that others consider easy, pushes you to do more reps or run faster or whatever applies for any particular activity.
Great workout examples
Even though one of the factors that affects the results you get from a specific workout is how often and how intensively you train, there are some activities and workouts that are more effective than others. When you are trying to choose a training program take into consideration what you want to get from it. If you want a complete body workout, try to find an acitivity that involves as many muscles as possible.
Examples of activities that provide full or almost full body workout are:
- The Gym: going to the gym is one of the best ways to get toned and build up strength. The most effective way to burn fat at the gym is by doing series of exercises without any rest in between and resting when you finish the series, repeating this process 3 or 4 times. But this kind of workout is really intense and not everybody can do it
- Swimming: swimming, as many people already know, it is an amazing, full body workout that, even though it requires endurance and technique, it will get you toned very fast.
- Gymnastics: gymnastics is overlooked by many people as a way to get a toned body but it is one of the most intense and effectives workouts you will ever do. It will give you a super strong, toned body and you will learn some cool skills. I got ripped doing gymnastics in about 2 months
- Cross fit: CrossFit describes its strenght and conditioning program as “constantly varied, high intensity, functional movement.” Used by numerous tactical teams as a conditioning program, it is one of the best workouts you can do.
There are a lot of effective, different workouts out there and you have to choose which is best for you. Before deciding, do some research and be sure that the workout you are going to do will get you the results you are hoping for. If you want to get bigger arms , don’t be a runner (exagerated example)
