The wait is over! The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) finally unveils its protagonists from the Championship Series in the 2012 Commissioner’s Cup.
The B-Meg Llamados (formerly known as the B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados) already marched earlier as it toppled down the crowd darling Barangay Ginebra Kings last April 17, 2012. The day after, the Talk and Text Tropang Texters joined B-Meg as it pushed away the Barako Bull of the opportunity of entering the Finals under head coach Junel Baculi.
Likewise, Talk N Text is not new to the situation of being in the pinnacle of PBA Courts for they have reached the Finals for consecutive championship series year after year.
Talk N Text’s convincing win of 101-90 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, Quezon City prove the team’s character and superb talent.
Import Donnel Harvey although appear to be less impressive notched an overwhelming performance with 29 points and 14 rebounds. The local players such as Ranidel de Ocampo (forward) and Jimmy Alapag (point guard) stepped up when the odds are against them. Big contributions were delivered as well from Jarred Dilinger and Jayson Castro, whose daredevil drives gave the excitement and the cushion the team needs down the stretch.
However, their work is not yet done. They have to defend their title. As said earlier, they are here in 5th straight times and 13th overall. Game 1 of the series will now unfold on Monday April 23, 2012 (Philippine Time).
Coach Chot Reyes, the newly tapped coach of the Smart Gilas as well said “It’s always a special feeling to get to the finals. It never gets old”who is gunning for his 9th title in his 15th championship appearance. I addition, “We had no illusions about the other team, we know they’re big and they know how to play. (Energy) coach Junel Baculi put together a gameplan that gave them the best chance for winning, but it’s all about which makes the shots that matter.”
In the game, the Barako Bull managed to contain the scoring of Talk N Text from the first half down to the first few minutes of the third quarter. However, because of TNT’s aggressive drive and impressive perimeter shooting. The lead slowly increased but still a single digit lead until such a time it reached as high as thirteen. The Bulls could not made their shots in the dying minutes of the fourth quarter, thus the curtain closed for them.
