Korean car maker Hyundai has grown significantly in the past decade or so, in America it is a very popular brand now. As well as its small city cars Hyundai has been producing USV models successfully. The fist Hyundai SUV to hit the market was the Santa Fe in 2001; it was the first product launch after a much restructured Hyundai.

The Santa Fe was a huge success in America when it was launched and helped Hyundai enter the very competitive US market. The Santa Fe was such as hit in the US that at times demands out weighted supply.  

The first generation mode was on sale from 2001 till 2006, it came with a choice of 4 engines. The standard engine was the 2.4 litre petrol engine; there was also a 2.7 litre petrol on offer that has 173 bhp. The second generation model has been on sale since 2007 and is the current model on sale at Hyundai Edinburgh. The design was an upgrade from the first generation model but nothing to revolutionary. In 2010 there was a significant facelift to the Santa Fe; the front grille has been changed to now include horizontal and vertical gridded bars as opposed to the horizontal two-bar grille on previous models.

Standard kit on the refreshed model was also enhanced, it now comes with Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and steering wheel audio controls as standard.

The third generation Santa Fe is expected to be unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April. According to teaser pictures the new model now has a hexagonal grille – a key design cue of the Hyundai family look – a two-tone voluminous bottom car body and wider front and rear bumpers, creating a futuristic and urban-style SUV image.The third generation Santa Fe is expected to be unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April.
