A Smaller Version of The VW CC

The Volkswagen Group has set itself some very tough sales targets to achieve over the next few years. It met those targets this year and plans to keep doing so every year; the VW Group consists of other brands such as Audi – Lamborghini, SEAT, Skoda and now Porsche. What better way to meet these sales targets than by introducing totally new models to the range.

In 2008 Volkswagen did exactly that with the Passat CC, a four door coupe that has become a major hit with buyers. So much so that VW has decided to move the CC upmarket and drop the Passat nameplate – it is now a standalone model within the range. When it was launched the Passat CC sat between the Passat and the Phaeton and was based on the Passat’s platform. In 2008 Volkswagen did exactly that with the Passat CC, a four door coupe that has become a major hit with buyers. The first generation model had a fair few engine options including VW Group’s TSI – Turbo and Supercharged engines. The smallest petrol is a 1.4 litre TSI that has 160 bhp, the largest petrol is a 2.0 litre TSI that pumps out 208 bhp. The diesel range consists of a diesel engine in two stages of tune; it is a 2.0 litre unit available with 140 or 170 bhp.The first generation model had a fair few engine options including VW Group’s TSI – Turbo and Supercharged engines. The second generation model is a facelift of the first model, as I mentioned before the Passat name was dropped in order to move the CC more upmarket. Minor cosmetic changes have been made to keep the CC fresh and in line with VW’s current design philosophy.

The Volkswagen CC has been such a success that VW is planning on a new smaller version, it will be a 4 door coupe but smaller. It is reported that the new model will be called VW SC, the SC stands for Sport Coupe. It will form part of the new Jetta line-up and has been chosen over a 3 door version of the Jetta.
