Those of us with older cars appreciate how the panic can set in when our Lexus Norwich car is due to have an MOT! Will it pass? Will it fail? How much is the work going to cost me to get it repaired. Should I scrap it and buy a new one? How am I going to get to work in the meantime? It really can be a worrying time. However this is not the case for 97 year old Alice Day who’s car has recently passed it’s MOT with flying colours, despite the fact that it has not been driven for over half a century.

Alice is the owner of an Austin Seven Ruby which she bought for £145 with a loan from her father back in 1938! Remarkably the car survived a bombing during World War Two in which six people were tragically killed. Luckily Alice survived the raid and she and he husband drove the car for twenty years until they put it into their shed for storage.Alice is the owner of an Austin Seven Ruby which she bought for £145 with a loan from her father back in 1938! Now, the couple have decided to give the car as a gift to their daughter Jennie. The car had been housed in a very dry safe and as there is no rust to be seen on the bodywork. Some restoration work was carried out on the interior which had been caused by the bombing raid. And once new tyres had been fitted the car flew through the MOT with no problem. Now, the couple have decided to give the car as a gift to their daughter Jennie. Of course this car drives a lot differently than modern cars on the road today. The new owner says that she can manage to get about 40mph out of the car and whilst it might not be the most conventional mode of transport it has a family nostalgia that no other vehicle could offer.
