Piermario Morosini Passes Away

Born on the 5th of June 1986, Italian footballer who last played for Livorno Piermario Morosini met his untimely death after a cardiac arrest whiles playing against Seria B side Pescara.

The 25- year- old star collapsed in the 31st minute of the first half and received instant treatment on the pitch with a heart massage in order to revive him before rushing him to hospital.

The match against Pescara was later abandoned with the players leaving the field with tears.  

Doctor Leonardo Paloscia told reporters they’ve done all things possible to save the Livorno star but wasn’t enough to help him gain consciousness.

Another doctor said at the Pescara hospital that the Italian footballer was dead on arrival.

La lega Serie B confirmed the tragic incident on their website: “Tragedy on the field. After suffering a cardiac arrest during the match between Pescara and Livorno, Piermario Morosini has died.”

They continued “The 25-year-old player, who came through the youth ranks with Atalanta, arrived at Livorno from Udinese in January and played nine times for the Amaranto.”

Iannascoli said “”I don’t know if the ambulance was late, but I know that the entrance onto the pitch was blocked by a vehicle, Morosini collapsed, he tried to get back up but then collapsed again.”

In addition Pescara’s general manager, Iannascoli told Sky Italia “He looked at me in the eyes when he was taken into the ambulance,”

Italian media reports said a car belonging to traffic police force jammed the ambulance’s way into the stadium and a window had to be broken so the car could be moved.

Following the heartbreaking incident, all matches in Italy this weekend have been suspended in memory of Morosini.   

Morosini died on the 14th April, 2012 at Pescara in Italy. He has had a successful career playing for Udinese, Bologna, Atlanta, Vicenza, Regina, Padova and Livorno, all in Italy. He has impressively scored 141 goals.

The death of Livorno’s midfielder has reminded soccer fans of the death of Cameroonian, Marc-Vivien Foe on the 26 of June 2003.

Rest in peace Piermario Morosini, you shall forever be remembered in Italian football. The date for his burial would soon be announced.
