The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters is a thrilling mystery novel. Sarah Waters has not written many books, but her story telling is so great that you never want to put her books down. I borrowed this book from a friend, because she recommended that I read it. She said I would love the mysterious supernatural tale and I did.
The Little Stranger is about a huge house called the Hundreds Hall and the Ayres family whom have lived there for centuries. It is a Georgian house that was once grand and beautiful, but now it has declined. Its crumbling walls, its gardens choked with weeds, its owners – mother, son and daughter – struggling to make ends meet and to keep pace with a changing society. During a post-war summer in Warwickshire, Doctor Faraday is called to a patient at the old Hundreds Hall. He is caught up with the people in the house and the house’s torments. The Ayres family are haunted by something sinister than a dying way of life.
The Little Stranger is a brilliant page turner. I could not put this book down for one minute. It has a supernatural tale to it and if you like that sort of thing then you will enjoy reading this book. It is a story that will inspire you to read on. You will want to know what is going to happen next and you will not want to wait to find out. The story will make you think about the mystery and what is really happening there.
Sarah Waters knows how to tell a story very neatly and slowly until it gets to you making you want to know more. She creates the atmosphere slowly and then gradually it begins to unwind. She has a great talent for telling a story very well. In my opinion, all her books are brilliant. So, try reading this one and then read all the others. She has only written a few books so far. You will not regret getting these books, because I didn’t!
I have read one other book written by Sarah Waters and that was Affinity, which is another great story by this author!
