Hillshire Farm Grilled Essentials Garlic & Herb Chicken Breast is likely to become a staple in my refrigerator.  There are several reasons for this, including taste, convenience, and even its healthy factor.

I just happened upon this product at the grocery store last week.  I trust Hillshire Farm to deliver good, quality products, so seeing their name on the package made me pick it up to get a closer look.

While I am not all that much of a healthy eater, I am trying to be better, at least in small ways.  The package stated that the meal was only 120 calories per serving.  There are two chicken breast included, so that was the count for one piece.  It also said it was 98% fat free and contained no preservatives.  This last piece of information was important as that is the type of thing I am trying to avoid more.

Each piece of chicken is individually wrapped.  To cook, all you have to do is put it in the microwave for a quick minute or so, and it is done.  There is no venting or cutting of the plastic wrap that encloses the chicken breast.  It does crackle and vent itself as it cooks.  In fact, when you take it out, the plastic is all puffed up.  To open, you simply pull open the ends of the plastic wrap.  It pulls open quite easily.

This convenience factor of preparation and cooking is vital to how I live my life nowadays.  I value it highly.  However, I am more finicky about the taste factor, too.

I noticed when I opened the wrap how moist and juicy the chicken looked.  It did not look blah or bland.  The herbs made themselves known.  I was holding my breath, hoping it tasted as good as I was imagining it.

Grabbing my fork, I took my first bite and smiled.  The garlic and herbs were clearly present, and the chicken breast was tender.  For a complete meal, though, you would need some side foods, eat both pieces, or to perhaps eat this as a sandwich or even make it the centerpiece of a salad.

I plan to experiment more with it in the future.
