This is primarily because red wine is rich in antioxidants; specifically, flavonoids, which is proven to decrease cholesterol levels and contribute to cardiovascular health. Although of course beer and liquor do have the same beneficial effects; as a French study conducted would prove that these considerably contributed to the increase in HDL levels and subsequent decrease in triglyceride levels.
With these facts in tow, you will know that moderation is always the key to everything. But, for non-drinkers, this is not a reason to start drinking now. There are other options for having a healthy way of life other than drinking alcoholic beverages. Relaxation techniques, exercise, a well-balanced diet, and a positive frame of mind can go a long way towards achieving a healthy and sound mind and body.
