The Indian institute of technology is a group of fifteen  autonomous engineering and technology oriented institute of higher education established and declared as institute of national importance by the Government of India.The IITs are created to fulfill the needs of skilled workforce to support the economical and social development of India.

At present there are 15 IITs and IT BHU is likely ti upgrade into IITs from coming session.Each IIT is an autonomous Universitt,linked to the other through the common IIT council, which keeps vigilence on their administration. They have a common admission process for under graduate course, using the  Joint Entrance Exam(IIT-JEE).

The extended merit List(EML) of IIT-JEE is the list of candidates drown up with some farther relaxations in the aggregate cutoff of  the JEE merit list. All EML candidates are eligible for admssions in institute like IISt Banglore , IISER at pune , Kolkata , Thiruvananthpuram , bhopal, Mohali, RGPIT Noida , IIMS at Mumbau and Kolkata.

Gatrways to IITs

The selection process for the admissions in IITs is grueling. IIT conduct a joint entrance exam for the admissions in IITs. A combined merit list is prepared for admissions in all IITs. Currently the exam is conduced in 117 cities.For the first time IIT-JEE is conducted in Dubai in the year 2008. The success rate in the examination is les than 3%. More than 3.5 lacs student appeared  in IIT-JEE 2009 out of them 10000 where short listed for 8350 seats.

This figure itself speaks the volume os aspirantas and the toughness of the competition.

Question papers:

There will be two question papers os three hours each consist of separate sections in physics , chemestry and in mathamatics.Questions in thos papers are objective types.Incorrect answers will be given negetive mark.

Language of the question papers:

Candidates can opt for question papers either in hindi , english ,and other regional languages.
