Fly Sui takes you back to 1984 when Daniel Larusso was learning how to stop getting his butt kicked by bullies in the Karate Kid movie. The object is to catch as many flies as possible with chopsticks before the time limit runs out.
At first glance it looks like the game will start out in a different language, but when the PLAY button comes into view, you can then see that it is in English, although sometimes when a fly is caught, there will be a foreign message displayed.
The graphic content isn’t too shabby, although there isn’t really much to it. There’s only one screen, and that’s the bowl of food with some steam that moves around, along with some flies and chopsticks.
The idea is simple, but if you have a fast computer, the act of catching the flies might not be so simple. They fly around in random patterns and stop briefly before flying around again. You would then wait for the fly to slow down and then try to squish it with precision between the tips of the chopsticks. It would be much easier if you could just constantly click the mouse around a fly, but the writer added a short timer between grabs to make it a little more difficult, so you will need to time your clicks. You will get a time bonus for each fly you catch. I didn’t pay attention to the game at the beginning, so I don’t know if you get a larger bonus, but as I neared 80 flies I looked up at the time bonus and it was a mere 1 second bonus per fly caught. Judging by the amount of time I had by then I would have to assume that you gain less time as you catch more flies. I had caught 94 flies and my time ran out.
It appears that more code was used around the game than on the game, as the PLAY button has a nice little animated spin to it, and the bowl has animated steam that swirls around from it. At the end of the game when you go to submit your score, the words and text boxes are slanted, so when you type in your information, your typing also slants. I thought that was kinda neat.
All in all, I would have to give the game a low score just because there’s nothing else to do but catch flies.
