Introduction of Taoism Religion

Taoism is one oldest admired eastern religion or we can say that philosophy as contains perhaps 226 millions of followers. In this religion many followers are also identify with other religions such as Buddhism, Confucianism etc. Taoism is considered as one of the great religions of the world. The well known symbol in Taoist is recognized as Yin Yang Symbol as illustrated in figure. Taoism is also refers as Daoism and the word Tao or Dao refers to ‘way’ and can also be interpreted as road, channel, path, doctrine, or line.

The founder of Taoism religion is considered in Taoists as to be Lao-Tse (604-531 BCE) but, when he lived is not still known by anybody. All peoples have imaginary dates as some known that he lived in the 4th century BCE as however most historians suggest that Lao-Tse is a synthesis of a number of historical figures or that he is a mythical figure. It is considered that “Taoism started as a combination of psychology and philosophy but evolved into a religious faith in 440 CE when it was adopted as a state religion and at that time, Lao-Tse became popularly venerated as a deity”. Taoism is also one great religion in China.

Taoists (followers of Taoism religion) were heavily persecuted in China after the Communist victory in 1949, and during the Cultural Revolution from 1966 to 1976.

Some Facts and Beliefs

In this religion believed that body’s dominant five organs and orifices correspond to the five parts of the sky as follows– water, fire, wood, metal and earth. Taoism religion strongly promotes health & vitality and development of skill (virtue) is one’s dominant task in it. In this religion three Jewels to be discovered are compassion, moderation and humility. In Taoism many more facts and beliefs are also present but, these are predominant.

The trinity concept is also most important faith in Taoism. The Trinity of Taoism is called San Qing. Three are as follows-

1. Yu Qing (the Jade Purity) (Universal Lord of the Primordial Beginning)

2. Shang Qing (the Supreme Pure One) (Universal Lord of the Numinous Treasure)

3. The Tai Qing (Grand Pure One) (Universal Lord of the Way and its Virtue or elder lord).

And on these trinity based Taoist temples specially built for San Qing and called Palace or Hall of Trinity. In second figure these concept is illustrated.
