Anorexia Nervosa is a condition found most commonly in young women. It refers to the loss of appetite resulting from nervous anxiety. It is considered to be a self induced psychological disorder which begins in an effort to keep the body slim. The intake of food is reduced by the woman until a stage comes when she virtually eats nothing and becomes thin. The patient is not able to realize that she herself is spoiling the appearance of her own body instead of enhancing it.
The common symptoms of a patient suffering from anorexia nervosa are little sleep, avoidance of foods and weight loss. Instead of all these problems the patient remains active. There may also be a stoppage of menstruation cycle. The patient is often depressed, impatient and irritable. If this condition is not properly treated it may also lead to death.
Failure to eat a diet lacking in proper nutrients can lead to serious illness and metabolic upset. The patient is living off bodily reserves in spite of appearing to have a super abundance of energy. The advanced stage is characterized by a serious upset of body chemistry.
