If you were overweight when you became pregnant, you have a lot of company. More than half of American women are overweight when they become pregnant. Attempting to lose weight while pregnant is not considered healthy and is not recommended. Gaining more than the recommended amount of weight can place you at risk for toxemia or gestational diabetes. Thankfully both conditions generally go away after birth. Your doctor can greatly assist you by recommending what healthy foods to eat and what exercises you can do during your pregnancy. You can further assist yourself by drinking plenty of water and fruit juices.
These liquids help to keep you and your baby healthy and hydrated. A tip to help you avoid over eating is to keep a daily log of when, and under what circumstances, you get eating urges. This will help you to see what situations set you up for eating and you can be prepared to control the urges. If you have not been exercising for a while, start slowly with low impact exercises such as walking or swimming.
These are exercises that allow you to build up your muscles and strength before trying something more strenuous. These are also exercises you can continue after giving birth and they can also be enjoyed with your new baby. Don’t wait until the last few weeks to design and decorate your new baby’s room. You can utilize your time while waiting for the blessed event by getting everything in place to welcome home the newest member of the family. Working in a place away from the area where you eat will also help with controlling your food intake and provide you with an avenue to direct your energies.
Equipping a new baby’s room does not have to cost a great deal of money. There are many offers of free baby furniture, free baby samples and even free baby stuff available for expecting parents. When you receive these wonderful items and place them exactly where you have planned, you can stand back and admire all your hard work.
As you are working at controlling your health during pregnancy it is important to discuss any potential risks with your doctor that might impact the baby’s delivery, such as what type of anesthesia you can or can’t use and whether you will need a cesarean section birth or if you are able to have a natural delivery.
All of your efforts during your pregnancy to maintain you and your baby’s good health become background information when you are finally holding your bundle of joy in your arms and taking your new love home to enjoy all of the free baby items that will serve your needs during your child’s early stages.
