The Muppet Show: Season 2 Special Edition DVD set is a lot of fun for Muppet lovers everywhere. This is a 4 disk set, where one DVD sets atop the other in the case. Unlike the first season set, this is just a simple two-fold case. The individual disks do have different Muppets on them, but for me, they are too dark and muted. I am not sure why someone chose this type of artwork, but it is very unappealing in my opinion.
The cover is an extreme close up of Miss Piggy with an emphasis on her eyes. There is also a felt like texture to this box cover which gives it an upgraded type of feel.
This is the season that saw the introduction of Pigs in Space and the addition of Robin, Kermit the Frog’s nephew, to the cast. He is pretty cute and a good Muppet to have around from time to time.
The fourth disk is the one that has a few extras on it, including a set of interviews that feature a number of the Muppets. Some of this is entertaining, and other pieces of it fail to capture my interest. Also included is The Muppets Valentine Special from 1974 with Mia Farrow, who is surprisingly engaging in her guest appearance here. I am not a fan of hers, but I really did like her appearance here. The last extra is a music video that includes a set up to the music. It is of Rivers Cuomo and his band, along with Animal, Kermit, and Miss Piggy.
A bit oddly, when you use the “play all” feature as I normally do, there is a longer gap between the ending of one show and the starting of the next. It always surprises me and has me looking up, expecting to see something is horribly wrong. It is still just a few seconds, but it is definitely a lengthier gap than in most other show collections that I have.
Just an issue to look out for, Disk 3 came with a couple of scratches on it that made it unwatchable in places, so I had to return it and get a replacement.
