Becoming Fit For Life

Everyone knows staying fit is important, especially with obesity rates in America rising quickly. Want to work out, but don’t have any good ideas? There are many ways to work on your personal fitness, and this article describes some great ways to have fun while working out and staying healthy.

If you are looking to speed up your running time, be sure to add resistance training to your training routine. It has been found that resistance training actually helps speed up the 5K running times of seasoned runners, often by as much as thirty seconds. Start by adding eight-weeks of resistance training, then go from there.

Sleeping helps to grow quality muscles. It is important to get adequate sleep. Sleeping aids in muscle building, and will give you better muscles. While you sleep, your body repairs and rebuilds itself. The amount of sleep needed varies between each person, however, most adults will need around 7-9 hours.

A great way to maintain personal fitness is to practice yoga at least once per week. Yoga involves your entire body and can include fabulous stretching and strengthening exercises. This ancient art has many disciplines, some of which provide an incredible cardio workout. It also promotes mental fitness and focus while getting your body into shape.

By working out your hamstring muscles, you can improve your sprinting ability. These muscles are responsible for starting a sprint and helping you gain speed. Try doing a variation of a leg curl. Start by placing all your weight toward flexed ankles with your toes pointed towards your shins. When the weight is lowered, extend your toes away from your shins, back toward the front. These give your hamstrings more of a workout than standard leg curls.

Avoid eating late – especially just before bed – in order to keep your diet in line with your fitness goals. No matter how healthy your food is, when you eat late and hop directly into bed, your body is going to digest it according to your inactive state. Food will go directly to storage in body fat instead of getting burned by your muscles.

A good fitness tip is to rest adequately between each set or each exercise. Do not concern yourself with an exact amount of rest between each set. Rather base your rest periods on how you are feeling. You will find that you will rest less in the beginning of your workout and more towards the end.

Work out with a buddy. When you feel accountable to someone else, it is much harder to skip a workout. If you don’t show up, you’re not only letting yourself down, you’re letting your workout partner down. In addition, exercising with a friend makes it more enjoyable, meaning you are more likely to stick with it!

Staying fit can be difficult until you get in the habit of working out, but if you stick with it you will be rewarded with a great looking body. Hopefully you now have some great fitness ideas and are eager to apply them to your next run around the block or trip to the gym.
