How Biometric Fingerprint Recognition System Work

With crimes on the rise today, it becomes necessary to formulate a system which has a perfect security. A new system was therefore required to protect information of vital importance. One of the most efficient and the cheapest systems in place, the Biometric Finger Print Recognition System is a safe mode of storing and accessing vital information, data or any other business files. The fingerprint technology is used as every person has a unique set of fingerprints and none other can access the authorized account.

BioSecureID/Biometric Products is gaining popularity as technology as well as demand rises. This system has been put up in airports and other fields of personal business where the complete database of a person is required. Such complete identification procedures are based on fingerprint identification, retina identification, geometry of the hand and finger and also the scent of a person.

The system may also be based on the voice, walking gait and typing rhythm. Amongst all these systems mentioned, the fingerprint records system is the cheapest and the most easily accessible systems. It is used to access some computer systems, open vehicle doors or start up the engine. The system is also useful for gun storage and is also cost effective.The biometric fingerprint system works in an interesting fashion.

A recognition system is put in place where sensors read the fingerprints of the user and match it against the digital representation of fingerprints. When a match is found, various actions come into play. The processing is carried out in two phases and includes the establishment of an association and identification of a particular print to a particular person.

There are two scanning systems of fingerprints that have been developed.

  1. Optical scanning system

  2. Capacitance scanning system

The Optical Scanning System utilized the CCD that finds wide application in camcorders, cameras, etc. A series of light sensitive diodes is present in the CCDs that produce a voltage according to the intensity of the illuminated light. Here the light signals that are reflected back from the palm and ridges of the fingers are converted to the electric signals, these electric signals are processed and compared with the ones stored and after that access is either granted or denied.

The working of the capacitance scanning system is a little bit complicated as compared to the optical scanning system. Here the CCDs are replaced by semiconductor chips and contain an array of very tiny cells which are smaller than even the width of the finger ridge. The biometric system uses pure electric power and the voltage difference caused by the ridges are processed and compared to the one stored inside the system and if a match is found then access is granted else denied.

Highlighting the above points, it is clear that the system is more safe and secure and prevents unwanted elements from entering into a place of high security. Thieves have been checkmated in the field of unlawful entry, fraudulence, pseudo graph etc. However this can also lead to certain malpractices as the person’s vital information can also be used in places where a person has not consented to. Nevertheless, this system ensures privacy, universality and permanence.
