Pakistani Nation and different communities from different parts of world send their condolences and grief messages to the family of Pir Pagara on his death on 10th january 2012. His supporters and people around the world are dipped in great sadness and sorrow as their beloved politician and pir is no more. There is huge crowd, infront of the house of Pir Pagara, gathered to attend his last ceremony (Janaza).
Syed Shah Mardan Shah commonly known as Pir Pagara or Pir Saheb Pagara, born on November 22, 1928, was spiritual leader of Hurs and president of a political party “MUSLIM LEAGUE FUNCTIONAL”. He was the major figure in the pakistani politics and the leader of Hur Force who participated in the Indo-Pak war of 1965. The one of the factor for which he was popular included the pridiction about pakistani politics.
The title “Pir Pagara” is given to Sunni Muslim sufi order of Hurs in Sindh. It comes from Persian word Pir means Chief and Sindhi word Pagara means Chieftain’s turban. The major factor in his popularity is the hanging of his father Pir Syed Sibghatullah Shah ll by the British government in India in 1943 because of his struggle againt British Clonial rule.
When his father was hanged, he was sent to England and there he completed his studies and returned homeland. he started his main political career when Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah was defeated by Ayub Khan. She declared the Muslim League Functional and made Pir Pagara its head. He was also nominated as president of United Muslim League. He was one of the most respectable and influential person in Pakistani Politics. He was usually visited by many major politicians. He was also known as the man of principles and was always respected by other politicians.
Pir Pagara was admitted to Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) on November 24 for treatment of infected lungs, according to doctors he was in very serious condition therefore he was put on a ventilator and flown to London on special air ambulance on January 5, along with physician and family members. He was taken to Wellington hospital London, where he died on January 10, 2012 at 11:30 P.M. according to Pakistan standard time. He died due to liver infection, his body was returned to country on the next day after all formalities.
He was politically active till his last years and was playing a major part in the politics. He will always be remembered as the great politician and Pir in the history. As it is well said that people dies but their thought doesn’t die.
