Becoming an expert is normally about what you want to achieve. Think about this, if you want to become an expert about fixing a car engine, whatever you do, you will do your best for specializing yourself in that. You will not be concerned about anything else. However, if someone wants to know about anything that concerns cars then an expertise in car engine alone will not matter that much for him. Therefore, if you consider becoming an expert then you have to know that there is always a larger domain for everything you choose.
This is why, even if you are an expert at something, if you look at the larger picture, your expertise may not mount to anything.
There isn’t anything like absolute expertise, it is always relative.
When you begin to say that you want to become an expert in something, you have to define what you want in a clear way. You have to be clear about what you need to learn using concrete words and you have to work hard at achieving it.
The expertise you gain is also about want you wish to do with it. Some people may like to be an expert so that DIY projects are easy for them. Others can try to become experts just because the subject fascinated them. There are also people who become experts simply because they wish to teach the subject to other people. The rest become experts to get money from their expertise.
According to the need of the people, they will also require different practice and knowledge. You can be an expert in one of the above areas; however, you can lack the knowledge in doing something else.
When you make up your mind to become an expert then you will have to lay strategies for achieving this after getting the answers for the following questions – Why do you want to become an expert in the subject? What are you trying to achieve in the end?
After getting the right answer for these questions, you will be able to focus all your energy in the direction you want and you will be able to make the most of what you have planned to do.
