Before you swing, check your stance by wiggling your toes. If a golfer leans too far over the ball, wiggling their toes will be very difficult. Lean back until your feet are loose to ensure you have the correct posture.
If you have trouble slicing the ball off of the tee box, try changing your stance and putting your front foot a little closer to the ball. “Closing” your stance like this can balance out any spin that initiates your ball slicing, which means you have better odds of sending your ball into the fairway for a better second shot.
Don’t get frazzled by trying to position yourself into an unnatural stance. Practice concentrating on the ball without using a club. Stand in position with flexed knees, bend a little at your waist and then let your arms naturally drop forward of you. Clap and hold your hands together. This position should feel natural to you, and if it does not, you might be overcompensating it.
Mental preparation is as important as physical preparation in a golf game. Block out the stress and issues of your life and concentrate on your game.
Be sure that you behind the golf ball at a distance of about four feet. At the same time, you should be viewing the location where you want the ball to end up. Massage can be of tremendous benefit in loosening key muscles and imparting more flexibility. Yoga is very beneficial for loosening up both the arms and torso for smooth golf swings.
Get acquainted with your golfing partners if you’re playing with strangers. You want to have a good relationship with your partners because you will be playing with them for at least the next four hours. Introduce yourself, engage in friendly conversation with your partners and you are sure to enjoy the game.
Try walking, instead of renting yourself a golf cart. Walking the course will also help you become more familiar with the grounds and help you with your shots. Plus, you will stay warmed up and loose as you walk along, thus improving your golf game.
Intentionally pitting yourself against players at your own level can give your confidence a big boost. Try playing on courses that are designed for beginners. Challenging very hard courses, and playing with semi-professional players, is only going to crush your spirit.
