Walking is one of the best exercises for many reasons. Walking is great for keeping your whole body in shape and getting fresh air, and it’s something most of us already do on a daily basis. To stay healthy and keep in shape you don’t have to walk 20 miles to work. Simply adding an extra 2,000 steps to the amount you already walk in a day can make a difference.
Walking 2,000 steps more in a day may seem like a lot, but it really only takes around 15 minutes to walk 2,000 steps. Although you may choose to walk to work if it is close to your residence, for most people it simply isn’t feasible because of distance and weather conditions.
Where and When to Walk for Health and Fitness
There are, however, many other options. For example, most people take a coffee or lunch break while at work and usually go somewhere close by, somewhere within walking distance. By simply walking to pick up your coffee or lunch and come back to work, you could have added an additional 2,000 steps to your day, in an effortless way. As well, simply going for a walk around your neighborhood is also a way to add more steps to your day.
Going to the grocery store more often, twice a week perhaps instead of once is also a way to add more steps to your day, and will allow you to buy fresher food. Another great option is to get up during a few commercials while watching TV and simply walk around your house until the commercials are over. This is a great way to stretch and keep your body from getting stiff from sitting for hours on the couch.
Adding 2,000 steps to your day is easier than most think, and with every 2,000 steps you walk you burn around 100 calories. By simply adding an extra 2,000 steps to your daily routine you could be 12 pounds lighter by the end of the year!
