Effective Ways to Help Quit Smoking

Slowly, our population is continuing to have less and less smokers. One of the main reasons is because now, it is less accepted by society. But what about those people out there that still do smoke and want to quit but don’t know where to begin?

Luckily for you, I’ve put together this article with some tips and ideas that could help you put down the cigarettes for good. Why not start living a healthier lifestyle? Let’s take a look at a few things that could possibly help you in the struggle of quitting smoking.

1. The most important thing when you’re trying to quit an addiction is to tell yourself you can do it. If you don’t completely believe in yourself, you will fail. Cigarettes are one of the hardest things to put down out of all the addictions, so you need to be ready to commit yourself 100% to it.

2. Find hobbies before you start your process that you know you enjoy doing. There’s two parts to quitting smoking, the mental addiction and the physical addiction. Believe it or not, one of the biggest reasons people continue to go back to smoking is because it’s a way to kill time. When you’re bored, you go smoke. Find some activities that you always enjoy and stick to them. This will make your time go by faster, and help you not consider on going back to being a nicotine fiend.

3. Chew on a toothpick. This might sound ridiculous, but it actually works. Chewing on a toothpick will still give you the feeling of something being in your mouth, hence the physical addiction.

4. Set yourself a short-term goal. Obviously, the idea behind quitting smoking is to do it permamently. But when you first start people find it extremely hard. Start off by setting yourself a short-term goal. The way I did it was I said if I could make it past the first three days, then I’d be fine. Once you meet your goal, it gives you a more realistic view that it is possible and that you can do it!
