The Singapore Sling Cocktail Recipe

What is the Singapore Sling:

The Singapore Sling is an alcoholic cocktail mix that is unique to the country of Singapore. The Singapore Sling is a refreshing and delicious cocktail that contains a mixture of tropical fruit juices like pineapple juice and lime juice fused together with gin and brandy. It is normally of an attractive pink color or sometimes red in color.

The history behind the creation of the Singapore Sling:

The Singapore Sling was created at Raffles Hotel located in Singapore, dated around 1913 by a Hainanese chinese man named Ngiam Tong Boon who was a bartender then. There had been a rumor that Ngiam Tong Boon got the Singapore Sling recipe from a hotel visitor that happened to have asked the waiter for the drink. If you happen to visit the Raffles Hotel now in Singapore, you will get to see the safe in which Ngiam Tong Boon used to keep the recipe of the Singapore Sling a secret.

 

The following ingredients are needed for the preparation of the Singapore Sling:

  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters

  • 30ml of Fresh Lemon Juice

  • 80ml of Fresh Pineapple Juice

  • 10ml of Grenadine

  • 5ml of DOM Bénédictine (the most important ingredient)

  • 5ml of Cointreau

  • 20ml of Cherry Brandy

  • 40ml of London Dry Gin

  • 5ml of Soda Water

  • 4 to 6 cubes of ice

 

The preparation of the Singapore Sling:

  • Mix the Fresh Lemon Juice together with the Fresh Pineapple Juice in a cup

  • pour the Grenadine, DOM Bénédictine, Cointreau, Cherry Brandy and the London Dry Gin together into the cocktail shaker

  • Put the ice cubes inside the cocktail shaker

  • Shake the cocktail shaker for about 1 minute

  • pour the Fresh Lemon Juice and Fresh Pineapple Juice mix into the cocktail shaker

  • Shake the cocktail shaker for another 1 minute

  • Check to see if the mixture in the cocktail shaker starts to have some foam at the top

  • if you notice some foam at the top, then the drink is ready

  • pour the contents of the cocktail shaker into a tall glass

  • Top the mixture with soda water

  • stir briefly and add a dash of Angostura bitters at the top

  • enjoy the Singapore Sling!
