What is happiness and how do you get it? You can’t just pick it up at the store that’s for sure. And having a ton of money certainly doesn’t guarantee that you will be happy. Many lottery winners have made their fortunes only to find their families are breaking up. Let’s explore what happiness is and what we need to do to be happy. Most people that are really happy have learned how to sit down and really relax, taking the stress off of the day. You should relax and roll with the punches. If you deal effectively with the things in your life that you can control, then that’s just great. And then you are smart enough not to worry about the things that are out of your control. Make an effort to laugh whenever possible, even at yourself! Realizing that there are many things in your life that you can be thankful for is a pretty big plus.
Take the time to appreciate all the wonderful things in your life that you do have. Family, friends and the roof over your head are a few to be cherished. Take a look around you and you will see that there are always people that are less fortunate than yourself, so be happy with what you have and who you are. Setting some short and long term goals for your life can be quite rewarding and will provide you with growth as a person. Usually short term goals are easier and faster to achieve and may just give you the little pick me up to be happy. Try setting some long term goals that may take many baby steps to achieve, but in the long run these can be even more valuable when you realize what it took for you to achieve them. These goals are all about achieving some happiness in your own way. Many of the happiest people are very well rounded and are interested in many things that help them achieve happiness.
The reason this works so well to keep them happy is that they don’t put all their expectations in one basket. When you have your job, hobbies, entertainment, families and friends you have a big even support network around you. Not every day is always the happiest but they will be much better when you have all these parts coming into your life to give you a chance at happiness. Be sure and allow forgiveness into your life. When something doesn’t go right or doesn’t go your way, let it go and get on with your life. Holding on to anger or sorrow only prolongs the misery. Get on with the good things to come in your life, smile and let yourself be happy. I hear it can be catching!
