The British comedy sketch series A Bit of Fry and Laurie (sometimes referred to as ABOFAL) starred Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie and was broadcast from 1989 to 1995. It ran for four series, with a total of 26 episodes. This includes the 35 minute pilot episode from 1987.
This zany, off-the-wall comedy series often relied on clever wordplay and innuendo to make its point. It had a diverse sense of humor, with sketches that lampooned everything from political figures to Australian soap operas to television commercials. It was also very unusual in that its players would sometimes step out of character mid-sketch. The show would also feature the occasional musical number, with Hugh Laurie showing off his piano playing skills, as well as singing.
Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie have worked together on various other productions including the British comedy show Jeeves and Wooster, an adaptation of the P.G. Wodehouse novels. They also starred together in the dramatic film Peter’s Friends. Currently, Hugh Laurie can be seen starring in the Fox Network drama House as Gregory House, the sarcastic but brilliant medical doctor.
