So, you’ve decided to jump on the bandwagon and become a blogger. Why? Because you’ve heard that bloggers are making a ton of money on the Internet, and you want your piece of the pie. Now, all you have to do is go out there and start blogging, right? Well, not exactly.
There are several things you need to do before you become the next big thing in the blogging world. First of all, you’re going to need a good domain name that corresponds with whatever you’re planning on writing about. You also need to decide whether or not you’re going to start out on a free blogging platform or if you’re going to pay for a name and the hosting fees. While free is always easier, it’s not always wiser. If you do decide to start out on a free site, Blogger.com is probably your best option.
The next trick is in deciding what you’re going to blog about, or what niche you want to jump into. Your topic of choice can be a big factor in how much money you’re going to end up bringing in. Another thing to remember is that just because you don’t think a certain topic will bring in the readers, don’t be too sure. The more refined the topic, the more readers will come looking. And without readers, you’re already beat.
For example, say you plan to do a blog about handy crafts. Run a search in any keyword tool, or just through Google, and see which terms are being sought after the most. Then, see which sub-topics seem to be bringing in the most searches and go from there. Knitting is a huge topic right now, and there are a lot of people out there looking for that type of information.
Okay, now you have your domain and niche topic ready to go. So now what? Content! Create 5-10 articles to get your site started. As for advertisers, get yourself a Google Adsense account and add those to your site, and maybe check out a few affiliate sites to see if they have anything that goes with your theme. If you’re creating a knitting blog, put up some advertisements from companies that work in this field.
You are now officially on your way. The thing to remember is that nothing happens over night, and you’ve got to work at keeping your blog up to date in order to keep the people, and the money, coming in. Like anything worth having, you’ve got to work for it. And one final piece of advice is to be confident in your abilities. You can make money from blogging, if you know where to start.
