But as the saying goes ‘Do not judge a book by its cover’ so must you not judge the book unless you’ve read it.
‘GOD IS NOT A CHRISTIAN’ is the title latest book of the Great Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
The writer really makes the point that “God is clearly not a Christian. His concern is for all his children. To claim God exclusively for Christians is to make God too small and in a real sense, is blasphemous. God is bigger than Christians and cares for more than Christians only,”
Below is an excerpt from the book.
Most Christians believe that they get their mandate for exclusivist claims from the Bible. Jesus does say that no one can come to the Father except through him, and in Acts we hear it proclaimed that there is no other name under heaven that is given for salvation (John 14:6; Acts 4:12). Those passages seem to be categorical enough to make all debate superfluous. But is this all that the Bible says, with nothing, as it were, on the side of inclusiveness and universality, and does the exclusivist case seem reasonable in the light of human history and development?
He also went to argue the fact that if God were to be a Christian, what would be the fate of those who lived before Christ? They never practiced Christianity. Are they doomed for eternal torments since the Bible makes it clear ‘No one comes to the Father except through me-Jesus Christ’? Or could they be blamed for their ignorance?
There is a Jewish story which portrays that, God accosted the Israelites when they were jubilating after the drowning episode of the Egyptians.
He said ‘why should you jubilate whilst my children have drowned’.
God loves everybody including you.
The Bible enlightens everyone not just Christians.
Everybody will be judged according to his deed on earth. Mind you, not just Christians
God’s love is indeed in abundancefor all including those who even HE exist not.
Either one is a muslim, a christian or an atheist, God love is abundance for all.
God therefore cannot be limited to Christians only and hence the Bible is for each and everyone of us just as the the Holy Koran. They do contain teachings which is meant to set each and everyone of us the way leading to the mighty kingdom.
Life is therefore how one relates to the almighty God.
The omnipotent, all present and all loving God has in store, God palns and tender care for all.
Please do make up your mind now and trust in HIM now.
